I want to load a background image in WIngs3d as a guide to model my object. I can load an image and show it in the Outliner window , but don't know how to project it as a background Does anyone know if this is possible. I have seen some tuts but they don't help me much.
Thanks,

You can import a sculpty plane, give it a new material, and then use your image as the texture for that material.

That is how I texture objects....
But I want to have a background pic with, say an outline of an object and then pull the vertices of my object in the shape of the outline

Right. So make your background by using a second object. A sculpty plane is perfect for this, because it has just the UV mapping you want.
Or maybe I'm mis-understanding what you are trying to do.

It's getting late here, I never realized that you can have two objects in your scene at the same time. I'll give it a try tomorrow.
Thanks

if you want to have a image displayed in wings you will need to import said image as a "image plane" just right click and right above the option named text select image plane and select your image. it will then import pre-uvmapped to a thin 3D plane that you can resize and shape.

Good catch, Almia. That's simpler than my suggestion. Note that you do have to unselect everything (by pressing the space bar) to have Image Plane appear on the right-click menu.

hey omei have you been having a systematic shutdown in wings when you try to save a file or when you select a file or hover above a filename durring a import or export. if you have get your rear over to the forums wings3D RC1 1.0 is collecting bug reports.

Yay thanks Almia, that was what I was looking for. I tried Omei's suggestion but for some reason I cannot UV map a plane and apply a texture to it. It does work with any other mesh I tried. I also tried UVmapper with the same problem. Anyway if I now find a way to resize the image ......

From: Brendan Etzel Anyway if I now find a way to resize the image ...... It's just another object. Scale it the same way you would scale your sculpty -- select it in object mode, right click, Scale Uniform.

Thanks for pointing out that there is an RC. I downloaded it and tried it briefly, and didn't have any problems. What OS are you using? Under Windows, hovering over a file name while importing uses the standard Windows dialog, and I wouldn't expect any Wings-specific code to be involved. But I don't know about the Mac and Linux versions.

Windows XP SP2 currently still beta testing RC1 even tho RC2 is already released. so far they told me it might be due to latin1 text complications but i don't use any special characters and stuff like that in names. its rather random and let me tell you i swear wings knows when i want to save or export and it does that to me.
