I use Wings3d for my sculpting, but I've ran into a problem when trying to export the item to SL bmp's. After I try to upload it it tells me that the mesh size is unsupported. What do I need to do to fix this?

Sounds like you're not using the kind of mesh that SL requires. Just any old arbitrary mesh won't do. Sculpties must be made in very specific ways (which is why they're called "sculpted prims" instead of just plain "mesh models" . The topology must be able to unwrap into a perfectly uniform grid. Sculpties are basically origami. You're bending and folding a flat plane in 3D space to form the shape you want. This is a bit different than how traditional polygonal modeling is done. It's far more analogous to NURBS modeling (which makes a lot of sense, since sculpties were first invented with NURBS in mind). Don't use extrusions. Don't add or delete faces, edges, or vertices. Start with either a plane, a capless cylinder, a torus, or a sphere, and stick with what that gives you. Don't tear or augment the surface. You can twist, bend, fold, and otherwise deform the geometry all you want, but the 2D topology (and the UV map) must remain perfect. The mesh size you want, by the way, is 32x32 quads. Some other sizes, such as 16x64, 8x128, etc., are now allowable, with the recent advent of "oblong sculpts" on the latest viewer, but it's not a great idea to use them yet. Lots of people are still using older viewers, and so won't be able to see them. Only the newest viewer can render them oblong sculpts properly. Stick with 32x32 quads, and all will be well.

Ok. How do I change the mesh? Sorry. I'm new to this and not sure how to change things within the program yet.

From: Kyrstian Matova Ok. How do I change the mesh? Sorry. I'm new to this and not sure how to change things within the program yet. Good luck. I have not tried wings in a little while, but I did find out it's best to start with the Wings Template for SL. It did not work to make my own template using the quoted size restrictions. That's all I know, sorry. BT
