I've recently made a plate, imported it into SL as a targa uv map. I then created a patterned texture for it in Photoshop, and brought it into SL as a targa texture.

When I put them both together part of the plate and texture go invisible, and it looks like a large hole has appeared.

How do I stop this happening please? I've uploaded several such textures and they all seem to have holes in them when used on this plate.

What type of prim are you placing the texture on?

Is your sculpt map TGA 24 bit or 32 bit?

Ah! I had missed that they were talking about a sculpty!

What happens if you apply one of the alignment grid textures to the scupted plate? Does it map to the surface the way you expected it to?

And is there any alpha transparency on your texture for the plate? It sounds like you made a texture the way you would for a round-appearing surface on a face of a cube prim - with a circular texture and the area outside the circle being alpha textured. A texture like that won't work at all on a sculpty, which has only one surface.

Hi. How do you create your texture for the plate ? If the plate is a sculptie, then are you aware that textures for sculpties are in general not simple to make ? Do you also see holes in your plate when you use the default plywood texture on it? Then maybe you suffer from the "inside-out effect" (google for it)...
Maybe answering these questions to yourself already points you in the right direction. otherwise maybe you can provide a foto of your results in world ?
