Sculpty Question

Can you make a Sculpty Hollow in SL? Can you make a sculpty hollow in an outside program and import it where it will be hollow? Can you say, create a cylinder (normal prim), hollow to 95%, change it to a scuplty...say cylinder...and have it end up being hollow?

I really don't like to use sculpties due to texture issues so know very little about them. Any infor would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If a prim is sculpted none of the geometric prim parameters (hollow, slice, taper, etc) have any meaning any more. They're ex-parameters. They wouldn't go voom if you... oh, you know what I mean...

You can get/make hollow sculpties though. Typically a sculptie has one visible face though. For example, if you make the default sculptie apple as big as it will get, make it phantom and walk inside of it - you will see out as if it weren't there.

That's how phantom prims work. Works the same for geometric prims.

Basically... any sculpty is a sphereoid as far as the physics engine is concerned.

It is possible to make sculpties that look hollow, especially using the torus stitching topology. However, their collision properties are still determined by the bounding box and therefore you can't go inside the apparently hollow space unless they are phantom.

You can make a hollow sculpty, but you can't make a hole in a sculpty that is not already hollow, at least within SL with the available SL edit tools. You can certainly download the texture, and edit it to be hollow, and upload it again, but at this point, it would probably be a lot easier just to make your own.

I appreciate the information. I didn't think it was possible and could not find a clear cut sensible answer that I understand when I searched the matter. Thanks one and all!

You can fake a hollow.
Sculpty tube shape.
Shift-copy
Ctl +z
Sculpt mirror.

=Fake hollow tube with zero wall thickness.
