Hi
I have always uploaded sculpt maps with 64x64 px...but last time i uploaded one with 128x128 px. I know that before was not possible to upload maps larger than 64x64 so my questions are:

-Was there an increase of size allowance for sculpts in SL?
-If yes, does this mean better quality in sculpted prims?

thks

It's always been possible to upload large sculpt maps. You can go all the way up to 1024x1024 with them if you REALLY want to. But it's not a good idea to do that. The larger the image, the longer it will take to load, and the more memory it will consume.

Back before lossless upload was added, it used to be somewhat common practice to use large maps, to lessen the impact of compression artifacting. But nowadays, there's no point in it.

A sculpt map is always 32 faces x 32 faces so I guess there is no need or gain in going upper resolutions atm ..... or am I wrong?

Some topologies use an extra row of pixels from a 64x64 map (0,2,4,....60,62,and 63!). So that is the safest size to use, generally, for square maps. Oblong maps are a different story, and with impending generalisations, will become more interesting still.

Correct, as long as you're talking square sculpts. Those are 32x32 faces. There's nothing to be gained at all in making a map bigger than 64x64px.

As Drongle mentioned, oblong sculpts are a whole new can of worms. I've decided not to touch them until their math has been finalized, and until there's a mandatory viewer update so everyone can see them. Currently, they're only visible in the latest viewer.
