My question to all is... Once I have created a 3d model what is the proper file format to export it as (Mac OSX) so that I can then upload it to SL and rez it? I am test using Wings 3D and have a host of other applications... If this will help you help me these are it.
Vectorworks Mechanical 11.5, Strata CX 4.0.1, Pixels 3D 5.5, Poser 5. Carrara 3.0.3 (With all extras for Poser import and anything glows, grows stuff), Bryce 3D 5, QuickTime Pro 7.5, all Adobe software just before CS versions, Corel Suite 11 (Mac). And like I said I am test using Wings 3D.

Any help is appreciated I want to produce buildings mainly. I have read some of the threads regarding baking and spherical mapping its the file produced to upload to SL that has me stumped.

Thanks!

there is a limit to what you can do. SL does not have a 3D model upload
but you can make sculpty mesh prims
you will want to look at sculpty tutorials for wings 3D
/8/05/230813/1.html

and if your making buildings i would stick with the basic prims in sl unless your trying to make a organic looking home

Right. The building tools in SL are quite versatile, easy to use, and a LOT less trouble than the way you are trying to do it. Virtually every building you see in world was built right there, not imported.

Still... I would like to be able to take advantage of the tools that I have spent a lot of money for to design detailed objects to import to SL. I have a copy of Wings 3D and can import/export from that if I have to. If anyone knows the whereabouts of the "Mac" plugin for Wings 3D export to SL is in the thread I would appreciate it a lot if you could point me to it please. :)
Any Macintosh export to SL pointers are appreciated.

and so we forget the legendary AC3D program and its 3d model importer function for sl hmm.

lol

what they said.

anyway

if your using wings3D you will require the import/export plugin made by Omei Turnbull

normally what you define as baking is known as uv-mapping
unless you can make what is known as baked lighting then its a baked texture with fake shadows on it.

I recommend you stick with wings and do the baking with blender.

hey!

ac3d can import your models 3ds, obj,... and export to sl or save as a sculptie - watch out their webside at

http://www.inivis.com/

ac3d runs fine with my imac17" c2d 2Ghz/1GbRam/ATIx1600 - 128MbVram i have done a lot of stuff with for the unity_gameengine

You can't just build "something" and import it to SL... Otherwise there would be much nicer stuff in SL - didn't you ask yourself before? Well, you need a special mesh to start from, size or better say "structure" is limited! Maybe your work is worthless now, at least using all the tools I know...

For some templates AND the limitations using wings look here: /8/20/183764/1.html

and just do a search for sculpties here...

Would have been better to read before building already...
