I have a 30-second sound clip, in MP3 format on my PC. There is a 3-second clip that I'd like to extract and use in an SL gesture. I know SL is particular as far as formats that can be imported. What are the steps I need to take and tools I need to use to go from 30-second MP3 sound clip, to a 3-second sound byte that becomes the audio portion of an SL gesture?
Thank you, Ford

1. First get an audio editing program. If you're looking for a freebie, I'd recommend Audacity. If you want to invest in commercial software, there are lots of great options available from Adobe, Sony, Roland, and others. I use Adobe Audition, myself. I've been using it for many years now (since way back when it was called Cool Edit Pro, before Adobe bought it)), and I really love it.
2. Extract the portion of the clip you want to use. SL requires clips be under 10 seconds, so you're fine with just the 3 seconds you mentioned.
3. Save the extracted portion as a WAV file. The settings required are PCM modulation, 44.1 kHz sampling, 16-bit mono or 16-bit stereo.
4. Upload to SL and enjoy.
