I made vehicles but the problem is that when I do and I drive them (Space ships etc) I sit on a random par tof the surface, I asked my friend over and over and he wont tell me. I heard its something with the root object? I just want to be able to sit at a certain place every time.

Welcome to SL Ferdinand. ![]() By root prim (or what can also be called the "parent" prim) your friend was referring to the main prim of the build, or the prim that you linked the other ones to. If you want the avatar to sit on a specific prim, you should link the remaining prims to that one. This can be done as well by linking to the main prim last. Hope that I explained it well (serves me right for posting so late). ![]() _____________________

#1: Your root prim should be set up so that when it is at zero rotation, the craft is pointing due east and at the horizon. IF IT ISN'T, YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A GIGANTIC HEADACHE TRYING TO MAKE IT MOVE PROPERLY.
#2: Use llSitTarget() to make the avatar sit properly. #3: Here is a sample airplane script which illustrates llSitTarget(). #4: Read the last two sentences in my sig. _____________________

Ferdinand, you should look into this first, as Huns suggests:
#1: Your root prim should be set up so that when it is at zero rotation, the craft is pointing due east and at the horizon. IF IT ISN'T, YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A GIGANTIC HEADACHE TRYING TO MAKE IT MOVE PROPERLY. The root prim (also called parent prim) is the prim that you select *last* before you link. In edit mode, it is highlighted with a yellow outline. Next, make sure that the vehicle script is in the parent prim. Your vehicle will not move otherwise. Next, make sure that the vehicle script contains a sit target, which is this line that starts with "llSitTarget". That's the bit that defines where the avatar should be positioned when you sit. Good luck with that. _____________________

Anyone know of a way to change the root prim after selection, or at any time for that matter? My problem is I'll make a vehicle with a canopy or something else, and getting to what I want to be a root prim (the seat, well inside the cockpit) can be a pain.

I usually grab all the prims for the vehicle with a swipe. Then, to get the seats in order I Alt-Click'n'hold a peice of nearby ground and swing my camera inside the slected prims so I get a clear view of the "seats". Then I Shift-Click each seat to de-select them, and then Shift-Click them in reverse order - last seat to be sat in, then second to the last, all the way to the pilot's seat which would also be the parent prim - to re select them. Then a link and a rename and a take into inventory. Build done
