What do the bumpmap options of Brightness and Darkness do?

Its like an embossing kind of thing, for lack of the more tech def. Go check out the floor of bbc's build (in welsh I think, hope its still there).

When you have the right texture, its a really cool effect.

Ah, now that's interesting. I've been playing about with those parameters, and can't see any difference at all. What kind of texture do they work with?

It has to be a texture with a lot of contrast (dark and light bits) to work with.

A brigtness bump makes the brightest areas of a textured surface appear to rise off the surface. Anything pure white will rise to maximum distance, anything pure black will not move, and anything inbetween will rise somewhat.

A darkeness bump does just the opposit. Black rises to maximum and white stays at zero.

It's worth mentioning btw that this will not work with 32 bit images. Add it to the list of SL's numerous difficulties rendering alphas.

As Tiger said, images with high contrast will produce the most noticeable effects.
