So what are you going to build and how may I help you?
I would kinda like to help out with the coaster thing but I wont exclude myself from participating in other projects.
My plot is available to anyone who wishes to build there, so if you were left out and got a cool idea, send me an IM!

I wanted to help out with the Coaster project, so i'm offering up my plot to the cause. I'm not a scripter, so if there are any really good scripters and builders out there, let's build this coaster. I figure we can get 2 or 3, or maybe even 4 of the plots that are next to each other, and we could build a pretty cool coaster then.

James Miller and the coaster guys? I'm now in charge of the coaster? Jeez, I wish someone had informed me...

No, seriously, who's doing the coaster?

Wasn't "James Miller and the Coaster Guys" the name of a doo wop group in the 50's?

I have a coaster at my place in Stanford already, although, probably not of the type that people are thinking of building.

Anywho, I'd be willing to help with the coaster project if I can :)

As far as my plans for my plot - I've been toying around with making a Funhouse at my carnival, and will probably do a PG version of it for LindenWorld.

Either that, or if necessary, I can contribute my plot to the coaster.

:)

Err...Ok, LW has been open for 2 hours now, and NO ONE has built a roller coaster yet. I'm getting nervous! Please, someone, ANYONE, build one! :P

Two hours! I am probably going to take over a week to make my simple build, lol. I am a slow builder, anyone who knows me knows that. By the way, progress is being made on the Volcano ride, its sort of like a coaster :)

I haven't got a spot, but I was practicing coaster building in olive a few days ago and I made a working one with a 2 rail system :D

Now I'm building a smaller but much better one on my own land in Mocha (8,48) so have a look and tell me if you think we can move this project to your spot in Linden World.

The rail isn't complete yet so the car uses a script to get back to start. So if there is no car, that's probably because it went wrong with the script. If the car is there (a red block) just click it to see the ride (you can also sit on it but I need to give it slightly more power then)

Ofcourse when the rail is finished the car can't get off at any time (don't let it fool you, I use transparant textures to make it look like the car is open at the bottom.)

My plans are to make a looping after the downhill and if we move it to your spot we could can go anywhere (right now I have space and money limits, my land is 20x24 or so)

I really need help on the rail building (this is much work) and on the decorations and things like pillars, start platform etc. etc.

The scripting is something that I will do, because obviously I made the imporatant script already, and I build the start/stop script in my last rollercoaster and they were a success.

Also the rail has to be precise (both for technical and visual reasons :) and it has to follow a few simple rules to make it work. So everyone who want to work on it has to follow these simple rules.

So what do you think?

Great idea Mark! I cant wait to get inworld and see it. I would love to have you on the team. We can take your coaster and expand on it. A looping sounds good, and if you keep in mind that there is no height tax on those sims we can make it rise up into the clouds, plummet dramatically toward the ground, going underwater even, through a tunnel, with fishes! :D
The only limit is our imagination.

Well and our money :P

Anyone else wants to join? I would be great if we had two contiguous spots :)

Great mark. I think that if Eggy wants a spot next to my plot, we can have 72 x 36 plot for the coaster, which should be a lot of space. I'm up for helping out with that coaster, it sounds really cool

I'll join Mark. I'm plotless, alas, but that sounds like a great idea.

Who would guess it but I built an arcade on my plot.

;)

It has spaces open for people's games as usual, but limited in number of prims ( average of 15 max per space you own, can't keep empty spaces.)

Setting up my dwell rewards systems currently. :p

400 prim question
10-02-2003 20:09
I am going to have to rework my idea because I realized that I would go well over my 400 prim count on my plot with the plan I was following.

Is there an easy way to determine prim count without linking everything? Should I just monitor building expense? Can Nova or Haney just scan my plot and tell me what my prim count is?

I know I can rework my idea to stay below target prim count, Im just wondering how you guys are monitoring yours.

You can check your prim count by sending your camera up high over your pLot, drag selecting the whole thing (making sure you don't snag sidewalk or neighbor's prims) and then look in the first tab of your edit menu. The cost, divided by 10 will give you your count. You don't have to link.

(It was only the night before last that I found out you could TAKE such a huge selection into your inventory as a single item, without linking!!! DAMN but I felt stupid!)

I did a count on my plot last night just before logging off to see how I was doing. 398!!!! And I'm nowhere NEAR done.... :(

I'm going to have to trash the fancy red and purple carnival walls of my building (in the southwest corner) and go with something that has less primmage.

...I knew I shouldn't have started decorating before the ride was done. I can get carried away with that...

EDIT: Removed unfortunate typo. (See next post.) "Just say NO." :)

Ok to get back to the original topic: the rollercoaster. As you might have seen I put a small but high one on Eggy's spot now and since Brad was so kind so sponsor the spot next to it started a bigger one. Now for the rail system: it's VERY precise working and you can't easily work on it with two man. So better not mess with that until you know what you are doing.
What you could work on is decorations :) like cool things too see if you are riding, You can use cool rotating stuff or particle effects like fog or fountain.
Or just the open mouth of a huge devil or something that the car will ride into (just an idea)
Also I will build a 'sensor' that can be put on the track for recognizing when the car is coming there. That way you can make decorations that only do something when the car comes.
Feel free to build ANY decoration, I also would like some cool looking support pillars and I don't really care how big, what color etc. I trust that you can built cool stuff so just build anything you like. Just don't kill the rails (it's a lot of work)

Oh and you can use llSetStatus(STATUS_PHANTOM,TRUE) in the enter_state method to make parts of the pillars that connect with the rail phantom (car won't crash into it)

Hope to see something cool soon :)
