I want to make some components, which can be used within Second Life consisting of domotic elements lighting, and motion detection.
The components are basically objects with specific properties, which consist of: lights, sockets and detectors, linked to similar devices in Real Life, through an appropriate interface, so that when a light turns on (home automation) of RL, it would displaye the same in SL and vice versa. The presence of people could be seen in SL as n avatar robot, and the presence of fire as a signal on a monitor in SL or an adequate simulation.
To make these components is necessary to establish a way of sending a frame with code between the components and the viewer of SL and/or external to it, and the opposite.
The frame should carry three facts essential to the environment domotic: 1) the function to perform, 2) the address of the recipient device and 3) the address of the device's data.
As with all devices domotic, the reasonable limit for addresses is 1 byte, and one byte for instruction. This frame would contain only 3 bytes, not taking into consideration the bytes encapsulated in the protocol.
Regarding the object-installed SL, could be such a "light switch", which operate script or activate single-shot routine, informing the recipient device to function in SL and in turn to the customer within or outside the SL viewer.
On the other hand, an object "Light", set in properties with a certain direction, the script would be detected and emulate lighting accordingly.
The devices consist of RL domotic of a PC interface of any of the networks domotic standard X-10, AX-10, Domolon, and so on. or developed for that purpose, which in my case I use a Rabbit RCM3000 module with a C program and connected by ethernet with domotic control program on a PC, where SL also runs Viewer, but this configuration can be adapted according to the needs of the project.
If there is any similar development and functioning, I apologize, otherwise I would welcome the opportunity to contribute and receive any and all information regarding an opportunity to contribute in the development and or enhancment of such project

I'm am just starting to look at how to do some advanced things with SL and web sites. I know that is possible for in world scripts to request info form a web page.

RL systems can also send to and request information from web pages.

So I suspect you will likely use a web page somewhere to be a laision.

I have not heard of this being mentioned around SL ever. Although I don't get out much, I do read a lot.
RealXtend, on the other hand, has exactly this [X10 integration] mentioned on their website as a feature they wish to add to their server code.
Maybe you should trot off over there and investigate. I'm certain they would welcome any help and all grids may benefit that way.

I believe that you might look into the talk there was about remotely controlled sex-toys. I believe the term was "teledildonic" - perhaps not the right thing to write about in a thesis or academic paper, but might actually adress the same underlying issues. You should be able to google this.

(OMG - did I actually tell this to an innocent student)

I really appreciate the cooperation of all those posting messages.
Let me clarify that I do not want to do a academic work of this but simply bring some practical uses of SL in relation to the smart home.

The system that I have developed so far, uses the possibilities of sending and receiving mail from a prim, and a program developed in visual.net as a domotic controller device.

Since the email generated is valid only while logged on SL, the controller sends a mail to communicate the address.

For the case I have developed, two interfaces for SL: A HUD with the controls of the devices in SL and RL that also synchronizes with a remote control, and wrist remote controler

The only drawback that I find so far is the delay in processing of SL own messages, although it is not really harmful considering the delay of X-10 compared with a Power Line Communication interface linking cores of Rabbit or similar.

And here I was hoping for 3D goggles to be integrated into SL sometime soon. But imagine rendering 2 video streams, yeah. But sequencing your home to mirror in SL, never heard of that either. The most integrated thing I saw was some florist in RL had a promotion, maybe last Valentines day, where if you bought a SL bouquet, you could also mail one in RL. Sure bring on the merging of VR, I just don't have a cue how.

i have used 3D shudder glasses with SL it works really good
but the way SL camera works you get motion sick easily
i just wish they would give us control of how our camera works and not force
us to see how they want us to see

don't even get me started, lol. I made a 5 minute 3D film in university about 2 years back. I still have all the software as well as shutter glasses, I will have to throw together some mad experiment one day
