Occassionally, alternative portals allow last names that are not evailable elsewhere. However, the one to offer the largest number of exclusive last names was CSI:NY. It's gone.
The only other advantage is that you get a different NUE. In this case, anshe volunteers (i assume) provide orientation and help. You land right on her islands... I suppose if you want to buy land right away, it's convenient.
As far as running multiple accounts on the same machine at the same time, assuming your hardware can handle it and you are not easily frustrated by sluggish operation, there are several purposes. You'll have to use your imagination(tm), but no, its not necessarily for evil purposes. One legitimate use is to have one avatar waits on customers in a low-volume store, while another avatar goes off and explores the world.
