hey, most of you might have noticed that the opening of Linden World was not what we expected... with a framerate of 3 most rides don't even work. That's kind of a disappointment because I worked hard on my ride and I was looking forward to the opening.
I've seen a lot of attractions that use server-time even when no-one is using them. So I ask everyone who built a ride to take another look at the way you build your attraction (Technically)
So that means:
-put start-stop button on your attraction so it's only running if needed -disable unnessesary scripts (Color changers, Music, etc.... I mean are they REALLY that important???) -script more efficiently. -Don't overuse physics when it's not needed (or disable when nobody is using your attraction. -use textures to do small details (so reduce your object count)
thanks a lot!! I already did these things, so I can't contribute to a faster LindenWorld in any other way then writing this post.

The lag in Venice has never been, um, so ubiquitous.

I agree with this post 80%.
The only point that I dont agree with you Mark, is turning off all music.
Amusement parks are FULL of sound, coming from every direction. I think LL should really lift the ban on music, as it goes against something RL fun parks are all about. If not, can they at least play music for us? 95% of the time, its boring riding a fun park ride without music.

hmm yeah ok as long as you keep the music within your bumpercar ride... I guess music won't really lag the server that much anyway.

Well, the main problem with games on a computer is the fact that the experience is not the same anyone, due to computer speed, connection speed, bandwidth, etc. etc. etc. The fact that this game is a MMORPG adds a lot to making the experience different. If your computer or connection is slower than someone elses, then you experiences a lot more load time or feedback (lag in layman's term). And lag can truly kill a game. What's the point in having sound if you don't hear it while riding, but, instead, hear it 15 minutes later when your sitting at stage 4 for an event (ok, i know this doesn't happen, but it'd still be weird). Not to mention the fact that with lag, comes skipping in the music. Music is fine in game, but remember that there are people online who have bad connections, and their enjoyment of the game is dependant on running through with as little bandwith as possible. Things like music, or flashing textures (which need to reload every time it changes if that person cache has been filled), actually slow down their experience.
I'm not advocating no music, no flashing textures, but i'm simply advocating thinking about others whose connections or computers may not be as good as yours. They can't get the full experience if there are lots of builds that contribute to a lot of lag.
