I'm not promising anything yet, but I got an idea today. I think, using a scripted object, I could build a program to compose SL geometry off-line. You would then create a notecard with the data, drop it in to the "builder" object, and the object would res the components.

Let me know what you think, and if you're interested.

DEFINETLY interested. *definetly*.

When llGetPrimativeParameters gets implimented (soon, supposedly), it would seem like this could be modified quiet easily to work in *reverse*, to save models offline... A single script you dropped in each prim, and a different script you dropped in the root, which could then send the data in e-mail form or something to you.

I thought about that. It's harder to do, though, cause you have to get all the information about all the objects... I'm going to focus first on getting data in. :-)

Wraith, you are a genius. Is this program capabile of building on Linux? If it is, I could probably run it on my Mac. It looks great. What are the features so far? Does it use OpenGL? I would LOVE to hear more about this.

Wow.

Once again, the community steps up where the LLabs team has been slow to respond.

Good job!

Now, can you make it "export" objects too? :) I'd like to take offline copies of my buildings, for instance, in case a database error ruins christmas.

Its a fun problem, no doubt...mine works okay, but I'm sure others would do better.

Nice interface there, nice and clean.

Looks wonderful. I can't wait to see what becomes of it.

Have you considered this as a plug in for other 3D programs like Maya or 3DS Max? I'd love to bring some of my Maya models into SL. I've just been too lazy to so the MEL scripting needed to translate the building procedure.

Please keep us all updated on your progress. I'll be the first in line for a copy of this. Awesome job!

Add Blender to that list. It's free, works on all of my Macs, and is used by lots of SL'ers. Plus, I can't afford Maya right now.

:: bump ::

sounds hella good to me! And seeing as I can't run SL at work, I'd love to be able to do some work and then load it in later! Great idea Wraith!
