Darwin,
Is this a Lotto or a Raffle?
Meaning, is there a guaranteed winner at time of drawing or not. . .?
Thanks

Well never mind the instand win thing... lol
It's a lotto, there will be a winner but there may need to be multiple drawings.

Thank you Candie Apple for correcting me...
10k is not the biggest lotto ever. So, the minimum has been raised to 20k! Come and get your tickets by IMming Darwin Appleby in-world, 500 dollars a ticket, 20k minimum jackpot.

I dunno, I think that the largest "drawing" was the sword in the stone thing in Darkwoods for 100k. I'm just upset that it was won so quickly, I wanted to get in on it

I'm in the process of setting up a second in a long series of very similar contests, with very similar prizes. But thats not the point of this thread.
When is your drawing held Darwin?

Drawing is when everyone gets a chance to buy their ticket. Since only 2 people have bought tickets yet, that may be a while.
ALSO:
Note that this is a progressive jackpot, and chances are no one will win the first drawing. The jackpot will keep growing. Also note that you can rollover tickets for up to 3 drawings.

Could you supply a bit more of what the actual mechanics of the lotto be? Like the rules? I really don't think I would hand over $500 for a ticket for something I have no clue what the odds are, the mechanics, etc.

Well tickets are 500 dollars. You don't actually get anything, you're just entered as a random 5 digit string in a notecard. When it's drawing time, an outside app I made in C# will randomly draw one of these random strings. If one of these random strings is you, you win the jackpot. If you get 3 or 4 of these digets, you win the weekly prize (My calculations say that there will be at least one winner of these a week. A lot of thought went into this actually), which will be exactly 10% of the jackpot. While it may not sound like much, the first drawing will have a weekly of 2k, and later ones will have a weekly of much more. Probobly up to 15k as a weekly prize.
That's about it for the mechanics. The odds depend on how many people play, so they vary from drawing to drawing.

Does the C# program generate 1 of the issued numbers or does it generate just a random 5 digit number, ,if someone's ticket matches, they win, if not, no one wins? If it is a random string, which would explain the continious pot, it would not be based on the number of players, but rather 1/100000, assuming your starting at 0. Also, what percent cut are you taking from the pot each week for maintenance? God, I am starting to sound anal... maybe I need to become a lawyer...

The C# prog, run convienently on my laptop, makes the 5 digit number.
If no one's matches, then no one wins... the Jackpot. But if someone still has 3 or 4 numbers from the winning combo (remember, it doesn't have to be in the same order) they win 10% of the jackpot. This doesn't take away from the jackpot, note, this is simply a way of measuring how much I give.
I told a few people how I would be taking the cut, but I'm revising that. I'm simply taking 10% of amount of money I make from ticket sales. This means that when there's a weekly winner, I make no profit.
