Basic building dilemma. When I make a sculpture of several linked prims, and want to include one rotating prim within this structure, how do I do this without the whole structure rotating. Any help here would be welcome, thanks!

Use an animated texture to simulate the rotation or unlink the rotating prim. Those I think are the only ways.

You can rotate prims in a linked set independently. Ask Jade Lily about Child Rots, I gave her a notecard explaining how to do it.

i'm surprised i didn't know about this.. if i remember correctly, the last time i heard about this, it was supposed to be impossible under the current version.
but now that i know..
i was going to ask about it, or rather seek out Jade and ask, but i've decided it would be a lot more fun (in the frustrating, but rewarding, way) to just try to figure it out myself. the tip about rotting the kids was just the right one to point me in the right direction.
if i figure it out, i shall consider returning here and letting you guys know.. if i don't, then Jade will be getting a visit from me shortly thereafter.
