Okay, so I've owned the same plot of 512m2 in Stanford since January. I recently bought another 400m2 next to it, and 1024m2 next to that. I cannot afford to keep this much land! So my plan is to cut a nice 1024m2 plot out of it, and sell the rest.

But I've never joined/subdivided/whatever land before. Can anyone tell me how to do it without accidentally putting it up for sale or something? Or barring that, tell me where I can look up the instructions myself?

The easiest way to do it would probably be to just keep the 1024 plot separate and sell it, that way you don't have to cut, you only have to join. :)

To join the two plots you want, open edit land on your 512 plot, with select land on, click on an area in that 512 plot that is near the 400 plot you want to join. Once you click on the land, it should bring up a small yellow box, click on the edge of the yellow box and drag it over into the other plot. Then, just click the join button, and the plots should join and keep the land info (permissions, bans, etc) of your original 512 plot.

Hope that made sense and helped! Post here or IM me in game if you need more help. :)

Thank you Princess! The instructions for joining the land helped immensely!

Unfortunately, no combination of the existing plots would give me what I wanted. So I joined it all together, and then tried to subdivide what I want. But I can't seem to get it to work. Sometimes, when I subdivide, it appears to only be a partial divide, because if you click on one of the plots, it still lists the square meters of all of them. And other times, I can divide it into several plots, and then when I try and join together just the ones I want, it rejoins everything!

So... the next question... now that I've joined it... how do I divide it up the way I want? :o

You might also want to put your name in the for sale to field so that if you do accidently set it for sale, it can only be sold to yourself.

Gah! Sorry I missed your post, in case you haven't solved the problem yet, here goes. :)

Once you have the plot you want to cut envisioned, open edit land and make sure 'select land' is selected. Click on your land in the corner of where you want to start cutting. Drag the edge of the yellow box that pops up and select the land you want to divide (FYI, the yellow box originally represents 16m^2 of land, and jumps by 16m^2 blocks). Once you have a plot cut, just hit the subdivide button. That *should* cut out the plot you selected within the yellow boundries. If the plot is too big or too small, just cut small pieces and join/subdivide until you get the size you want.

If that doesn't work, there may be a bug in the subdivide, I've had a few people mention having troubles with it. Anyways, hope I was able to help again. :)

Yes, I had a lot of trouble with the subdivide. The only thing I can suggest is to try it in as many different ways as possible, and you should find that suddenly it will work.

What you've described is basically what I tried. Cutting the first chunk worked okay. But the piece I want is irregluar. So I cut a couple more chunks. Then when I tried to join the correct chunks, it just joined it all back together. :(

I will probably try again tonight.

Someone very nice has IMed to offer to help. Unfortunately, I haven't been in-world to make use of that help. But if they're on tonight when I'm there, I may see if they can help.

Thank you guys for the advice and instructions, though... I'm definitely making progress, thanks to you guys. :)

Update: I worked it out!

Apparently, my big problem was that, if you subdivide a plot in the middle of a larger plot, so there's bits left on either side, those bits are still considered one plot, even though they don't touch. So I had to subdivide one of the bits all by itself, and then it all worked out.

In an only partially related note (I'm putting it here cuz it's out of the way, and should avoid drawing *too* much attention), people looking for Mature, highly terraformable land should check out Stanford. Like half the sim is for sale, including a little bit by me. The land I'm selling is crappy (small and not square), but cheap. But someone else has marked out lots of nice plots for not *too* much. And it's all flat now, but can be moved +/- 20m!

Come on down to Stanford! I want neighbors again! :D
