Everyone should have a tree in Slate :)

Dunno if this should be in General Discussion or in Projects... mods, move accordingly :)

When I moved into slate a scant 3 weeks ago, I was intrigued by the "natural" look of it all. Treehouses were being built everywhere along the river and the steep hills. It's a very beautiful scene. That's part of the reason my house is made of wood textures and alot of windows :)

In any case, I began construction of my own tree... my mana tree or something, I guess you could call it. It's a very organic looking tree, snaking around my small abode, leaves rustling everywhere. Granted, it's not done yet, but I'm satisfied with it so far :)

So, my plea to my fellow neighbors in Slate... build a tree! Or, at least, finish your current one (coughAnandaandEzharcough ) :) Construct one on your property. Make it huge, natural, leafy... everyone can have their own tree... make it an outreach of your personality or something :) We just need more trees.

All I am saying... is give trees a chance. (with apologies to lennon)

:P

Thanks,
Lordfly

Great idea, neighbor. :) I like the start of your tree. I guess that's my next project, then, and a very worthwhile one at that. I think all of SL would benefit from more trees.

I am building a tree next to my little hut. It's a bit smaller than the other trees, but I didn't want to go full for bear on my first attempt ;). I'm thinking of trying to construct a weeping willow tree, think it would look nice down there by the water near my place. Yes, I agree, let's make Slate the tree-dom. I'll even volunteer to lead a group of slatian tree-makers if need be. Do we have a community organization in Slate? If not, why don't we start one?

I'd love to see more trees in Slate! At the moment my tree can't get much larger - let's see should I grow a tree or rebuild Kazenojin Station, hmmm... It is time to heal it from the lightning damage.

Anyway, those looking for how to do foliage, check with me or Candie Apple. I think you had IM'ed me Lordfly, but I lost my connection and the message :-(. And Ezhar too, maybe you could coax your tree to grow a few leaves? Or is it the middle of winter where you live?

I have my first tree next to my apartment building in Sage. I need to come up with ways to build a nice tree out of fewer parts, though. Trees are expensive.

Treebuilders: Yay for the greening of Second Life!

(I'm in a group called Second Life Druids -- a bunch of people who like building green and growing things in SL. Kitra Kothari and I started it -- she has a better description, but that's what we are. We're all over SL, so I think the door's still open for a specific Slate org. If you're interested in joining our group, OTOH, see either one of us)

I really like the way Slate Bay looks -- keep it up! The natural look (and Ezhar's little park) is what inspired me to build a structure that I call the Spirit Gate of Water, and install it on the hill above his stream. Thanks for creating the setting, guys. :)

free TREES?
08-12-2003 16:55
Candie,

you also had an event where you sold them for a dollar, because you wanted to see more trees in world.

I couldnt attend that event and when I asked if I could get a discounted fee ( not expecting them for a dollar, but something less then what they were priced since they WERE a dollar.)

You got really really upset and Im no longer allowed to attend your events. Why now are you offering them free?

All I did was ask for a discount and you got mad? Im confused. Maybe there is someone else using your computer and thats why there is a misunderstanding.

There is now an official community group for folks in Slate. Lots of people were invited yesterday but if anyone else has some land in slate and we've missed you, please get in contact with me, Lordfly or Ezhal in game and we'll hook you up with an invite. I'm the official "manager" of the group itself, but we can all get together in a meeting sometime in the next couple of weeks and decide if we want a formal structure or voted officers, etc. The group is for you all to have a way to chat with everyone in slate and a way to discuss issues, should they arise. I'm very open to working out the structure of the group with everyone in Slate. If you have ideas, please let me know!!

Also, I'm working on a weeping willow tree. I have an idea about how to create the foliage, but I'm not sure it will work. Candie, got any ideas on how to create a prim-built foliage for a weeping willow? Hehehe. Thanks!! & Welcome to the Slate Neighborhood Association.

Zana,

Thanks for setting up this neighborhood association! It's great to see enthusiasm building for the growing of trees, too.

I have some good willow branch textures, if you're interested. I'll try to find you IW tonight.

I had an idea for a neighborhood event - pool party! I'll raise up my tree to its full height and set up the diving platform - it's a great spot for a little summer fun.

See you soon,

Ana

This is great. I fly through there every now and again. Slate is obviously all about the giant trees.

Thanx Zana, I got one. Will be a while before my tree takes shape, as I am not very affluent.

Anyone interested in helping solve that problem, please swing by my shop in Darkwood (shameless plug here)

Thanks everyone who came out to my tree and the pond for the pool party Saturday!

Due to budget constraints and the ridiculous size of my tree, I will not be able to have it up permanently, but plans are underway to allow it to show up for anyone who wants to see it and explore for a few minutes. Plus, I am making the tree available to Slate residents and friends who would like to use it for an evening or a few hours on the weekends! This will include all the pond accessories if I can get the ok of my immediate neighbor, and eventually I'll get the place furnished. In the meantime, contact me if you would like to use the tree for meetings or events, and feel free to set up your own chairs and things, just remember to pick up, I'm not much of a housekeeper. ;)
