Hello World,
How come you can only build prims no larger than 10 m? Is this a land owner restriction?
(still a SL noob, bear with me)
Thanks!

You can't create new ones and you can't change the size of existing ones. There are thousands of different free ones available, though.

Hello World, How come you can only build prims no larger than 10 m? Is this a land owner restriction? (still a SL noob, bear with me) Thanks! the limitation was put into place by LL to ease strain on the physics engine processing. there was some talk of upping the limits, but it seems to have taken a back seat to other projects (I think the claim is that there hasn't been enough time/manpower to study the effects on the new physics engine). there are however free packs of prims that are larger than the 10m limits, that were created through a glitch (the glitch has been fixed) you can't change the size of them (they'll revert to the 10m defaults) but you can change any of their other properties. LL has stated that they have no intention of deleting all of those unless they become a problem ("problem" has been defined as anything from being used to grief other residents, to being made physical and causing slowdowns on the sim they are on). if you do get one of the packages of them, do not use them for physics enabled objects, or to harass other users. doing so will likely get you an abuse report, and an LL employee will be stopping by to delete your object, and possibly ban you for anything from 3 days to forever. _____________________

This makes sense. Where would one find such a package and what might it be called? Thanks! |

These are called megaprims. The glitch existed twice, and the last time a LOT of megaprim packs were created. Go to SLX (ooops, Xstreet) and search for megaprims, and you will see a bunch. All the good ones are free.
I have found Ceera Murakami's pack to be very useful, it has the prims boxed up by what they might be best used for (e.g. beams, walls, etc.), instead of just by size. You may also find this free HUD useful - it searches many of the most common packs automatically and returns to you the size you request, if available. https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=712605 Note: although you cannot resize a megaprim, you CAN cut it. But, as in any cut prim, the actual size of the prim remains the original size, although the cut part is not visible. So, positioning cut megaprims near your parcel boundary can result in you unwittingly encroaching on your neighbor's land. Also, it can be tempting to make a house from hollowing a single megaprim cube. Don't. . |

Go onto xstreet SL, and search for "Free Megaprim", and you'll find at least half a dozen different assortments of megaprims by various builders, including me. Get several, because each of us had our own ideas about what sizes would be useful, in the limited time we had while we could make them.

Please do not leave those megaprims sitting somewhere. Your neighbors will hate you, if you leave a 50x50x50 cube visible to them. Sorry that I even mentioned this here, I have just seen those megaprims too often. Yes, my neighbor has a black cube on his lawn 100x100x100.....

LOL .... Our neighboring sim has a black megasphere suspended over it. Aside from being ugly as sin, it distorts my sense of perspective completely. Because it only has sky behind it, I can't tell whether it's 100m in diameter and a full sim away or only 1m in diameter and just out of arm's reach. I can't count the times I've been fooled.
