hi guys, i'm trying my luck with 3Ds Max. i found a nice tutorial ( using projection modifier and Abu Nasu's scupltie shader) about sculpt map from Chip Midnight, and followed the steps. it works well with my practising sculpties; however, i start to have problem on it when doing my shoe sole sculptie - the sculpt map looks pretty odd. it's also in a strange shape after exported onto sl. could someone help me with it?

I can't help you with the method you are using now, sorry.
What I can do is recommend another method that might make it a bit easier. The PrimComposer plugin for 3DS Max (http://liferain.com/downloads/primcomposer/) has a few different and fairly easy ways to create sculpted prims. In addition to that, you can also build with simulated SL prims, and the builds can be imported directly into Second Life, including textures and linked prims. You might find that the Sculpt Shape in PrimComposer is easy and convenient to work with. It's worth looking into, at least. . _____________________

Looks like you've got too many polys for the converter to turn into anything useful.

I would guess based on that map that you are either trying to do multiple objects/topologies at once, you are sending the projection rays through the object surface multiple times, or the object you are projecting onto isn't inside the the surface volume you are sampling from. Again, just wild guesses here.
I will also second RobbyRacoon's PrimComposer recommendation. Even if it is just to use the sphere sculptie shape to project onto so you don't get the nasty pole jaggies. |
