Not exactly a build question, but.............
Is there anything you can make (or setting you can give) to block floating text from showing thru prims?
You know like when you buy something that display stats above the device, you then put this device near a wall, then you go round the other side of the wall and this floating text shows in front of the wall that's blocking it.
Does everyone find that?
Is there anything you can to (put in the way of the text) to effectivly block it showing thru solid items?
thanks

All you can do is not use it.

I think all your question posts of past should be compiled into one thread and stickied.
You ask some good, common, questions that lots of people probably want the answer to.

Well, As time moves on, a new query pops up, half the time I think I already know and am after confirmation really, (like this blocking text one) but sometimes I learn something new that I should have known AGES AGO. Like editing linked parts I've only just found out about and it great I also have annoyances (like this floating text being visible thru prims) god knows why they thought that was a good way to do it! I know how difficult it is for someone new to go thru all the same learning curve. And (as you say) it would be good if someone could somhow compile a list of questions and answers for the "Basics" so to speak.

One of the basics is that it's often easier to learn than to teach. Skill-based knowledge makes more sense to many people if they discover it and use it than if they read about it. Like you, a lot of folks would rather ask a specific question in the context of whatever they are working on RIGHT NOW than try and figure out how to apply a more general guideline that some kind person has written down. Me, I'd rather zip through a manual first to get a feel for the scope of a new challenge or environment and THEN ask questions. Having watched the flow of these forums for a couple of years, though, I strongly suspect that I'm in the minority. I think a sticky's an interesting idea ..... but I don't think a lot of people will read it.

If you own the object and it is mod you can drop a script in it that will remove the floating text, or at least set it to blank.

I put this very issue on JIRA ages ago and the response was that it was "low priority". Personally, the problem I was having was solved by me buying out the neighbour that was causing the problem It's been left open for voting: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-755

I mean it's not like a bug that some people sometime see, it's there staring you smack in the face. Full Bright floating text being visible thu at least 1 metre of solid wall (prim)

Yet again this is really bugging me. Purchased a dance ball and I've had to move it way down in the room and away from all other walls otherwise you can see the floating text from outside the house and also in other rooms! Arghh!

:0 insist on products that only use temporary floating text! s'awfully easy to work that in with an efficient timer... (p.s. says the girl who hasn't fixed all her own old appliances to honor that credo ;0)

Arghh! At times like that it's worth asking yourself why you bother putting a hover text in a dance ball in the first place. It's fairly obvious what it is, and everyone in SL knows how to use it. What else do people need to know?

From: Rolig Loon At times like that it's worth asking yourself why you bother putting a hover text in a dance ball in the first place. It's fairly obvious what it is, and everyone in SL knows how to use it. What else do people need to know? With this well known one apparently I can just edit the notecard to turn it off, but it was showing hom many dances were loaded, how many free slots etc etc. The thing is, REALLY I've like to see this all point and click in the (not sure what's it called) top/right blue menu system, also in there options such as turn off floating text. I have a number a security type/Sim stats etc etc devices and they all have a load of floting text above them It would not be bad if the text was kept narrow as it's less visible, with one of them has a l-o-n-g line of text above it, which is course swings around as your viewpoint swings around. I've still not given up I put an Invisiprim between me and the text and it does help a bit but not 100% Wondering what other "non official" type of prim types (if there are any) that might block the text from view? Even if the makers included the option so there was a switch on the device to turn the info on/off. I mean you only need to see it when you want to see it. Not all the dam time !!!!!! So, will carry on this request. anyone else found ant secret/magical method to block floating text? What about pariticles? (just a thought) Or............. (and here's an idea) does text block text? Could you make another object, but with a floating wall of text "spaces" above it, which would effectivly block other text behind it?
