Ahoy there. Whether you want it or not, here's my next tutorial. :)

In this installment we will cover turning a revolution profile plane into a revolution. Kind of like Rokuro, but with those wonderful magnet commands Wings offers. Grab the attached Wings file and follow along!

---
To get started, you'll need a copy of Wings and Omei's excellent Sculpty import/export plugin.
I assume you've at least played around a bit in Wings before and have a general grasp of basic camera controls. If you're having trouble getting Wings or the sculpty plugin to work, please do a search and find one of the existing Wings troubleshooting threads.

Here's a quick hotkey reference, just in case:

x, y, z - Look down the x, y, or z axis
v, e, f, b - enter vertex, edge, face, and object selection mode
o - toggle orthographic view
r - reset view
a - aim camera at current selection
space - deselect current selection

One important step you will need to perform before following along with this tutorial: in Wings, go to Edit, Preferences, Advanced, and make sure Advanced Menus is checked.
---
If the video is huge and blurry, go to the lower right corner of the video window and click on the arrow, and select 'double size'. Then it will be small and blurry.

Again, comments/feedback/suggestions welcome

Thank you once again, Daniel. I wouldn't have had the slightest idea how to do that in Wings. Inspired me to go study the possibilities for the Bend command!

You seem to already have a great feel for what makes a good Wings tutorial. But I'll throw out a suggestion/request -- a one prim bar stool or chair.

You may be asking what the attached photo has to do with this tutorial, all I can say is it has everything to do with this tutorial! I've learned so much in the past couple of days, I wish the other tutorials for the other systems were this detailed and well voiced over, I'd give them a try as well.

wow, cool railings. :D I imagine you're pinching the cylinders down to get more than one rail in a single sculpt?

Yes I am, the rings gave me the idea, I toggle the rotation back and for so it looks like a square wave if you could see all the vertice lines.. then across the top with the bar. Works okay :)

Daniel, something seems to have happened to the Google link for this tutorial. (Just this one; the other two are still ok.) Unless it is an transient problem, you may need to re-upload this tutorial.

Is there anywhere else to get these grids for the tutorials?

Also getting an error when attempting to extract, using both Vista's file browser and 7Zip.

What I'm most interested in is instruction on how to create the grid you started out with by scratch. There's a lot of tutorials I see that require an imported or otherwise special file, and learning how to make these can help in cases like this where an attached document fails.

Here's what I would do. The shape is basically a plane, so I would start with the plane template from http://www.pkpounceworks.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=28&func=fileinfo&id=120. To change the topology, export it as a 64x64 (not the default 128x128) sculpty bitmap. The bitmap format doesn't encode any specific topology, so you can now re-import it into Wings, assigning it a spherical topology.

If you proceed as above, you'll notice that your model has more faces than the one Daniel uses, because he imported a 32x32 bitmap instead of a 64x64 one. To convert bitmap sizes while retaining the basic sculpty shape, use your favorite 2D paint application to resize the bitmap before importing it into Wings.

I was grateful for these instructions. They came at the right time, and worked well. I am now happily following along with Daniel's tutorials.

I watched these and can't figure out how he started with the flat shapes. The only thing I can successfully import and export are spheres. I opened the .wings files that came with the plugin, but when I tested them to see if they would export as a sculpt map, the export failed.

I just stared with Wings so I am sure it is something so simple that Daniel did not think it necessary to mention in the tut.
