Ok, so, I like to think of myself as a fairly avid Maya user. One thing I am not, however, is a computer programmer.
Anyway, Qarl Linden, our super-hero linden, has previously released a few nifty tools for Maya such as the shrink wrap and texture merge nodes. These are very promising utilities, even for use w/ sculpted prims.
They are available here:
http://www.qarl.com/qLab/?cat=3
While the scene files including these nodes are available, the nodes in question have been compiled for the Mac platform, using a somewhat older version of Maya (6.5). The reason being that Qarl uses a Mac, and is (I'm guessing here) sensible enough not to throw down a couple thousand dollars every time Autodesk releases a new version of Maya. Completely understandable. To compensate, Qarl has released the source code for these nodes (actually, I'm pretty sure this is how he primarily intended to distribute the tools).
Unfortunately, this does leave Windows users (like me), running versions of Maya past 6.5 (like me), that don't know the first or second thing about compiling the nodes themselves (like me) at a loss. While I have dabbled in C++ programming before, I was 16 at the time (about 9 years ago), and I didn't get too much further than HelloWorld.cpp.
So, if you've read this far, I'm pretty sure you've figured out by now what I'm asking. Can one of you geniuses out there help the rest of us l4mers out by building these tools for the windows platform. I myself am running Maya 2008... I'm not sure how much the particular version of Maya matters though.
Anyway, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Reed
