Hiya All!

Is there any mature SLers out there that would like to get involved in a themed community set in the 60’s centered on Route 66?

I was kind of preoccupied with RL when the Lindens were looking for ideas for the themed communities, but it would be great to work on a structured team project in SL.

The good thing is that I have already secured the land that would be needed on a fairly clean sim. So far I think I got about a 76-meter by 64-meter section of land purchased with a few more public sections still available that would probably bring it up to around 80 by 70. Which should be more then enough to create a nice theme.

I am not a member of any current group so I’m not sure how it all works but my idea would be to create a group with no one leader, more of a self-governed community with some sort of board of decision makers, a pool of money and all kinds of fail safes incase of some sort of falling out or if someone quits the game so that the community can continue on and the theme can evolve with the new members and ideas.

I of course have no idea how to put this all together, so I am looking for some folks to get involved if you can devote the time and effort needed. No offense to the kiddies that have been let into the beta in past few days but for the time being I’m looking for mature adults only that have a general interest in the 60’s/Route66 theme or in the Self-Governance aspect of the project. I am not interested in building another Lag tank or gaudy looking noise fest as we already have enough of them in world. I would like to create a professional looking theme semi-based on the rules set for the Linden theme communities regarding amount of objects and scripts, hopefully providing a destination with fun and games and smooth frame rates at the same time.

Another thought I have for this theme is that a council would decide every aspect of development and planning going into the community so no one person would be aloud to create any items within the land set aside for the project without it being a group decision. Also no one would be aloud to create any housing for him or herself, as that would be just wasted space and objects. If there were to be any income made of the sale of objects, games, events or vote booths all income would go into the project or any future project the group may work on. All objects would be from the 60’s or before, nothing futuristic or not from the era would be aloud. The land would be set to no damage so no fighting or guns would be aloud unless for a special event. Of course the rules will change as the council sets up its rules for the land.

Looking for People that have general knowledge or interest in Route 66 or ideas of setting up a council and a government structure. You don’t necessarily have to have skills in object/model building, scripting, architecture or texturing to get involved. I’m sure if this comes together the right way there will be many roles to fill. If you a wealthy philanthropist with more money then brains you too can get involved ;) For the time being if you were involved with any decision making or building you would have to have a proven track record within world with at least one example of your work, you must pay attention to detail and understand why one would not want to build a Laggy environment that no one would enjoy and want to travel to.

Its impossible for one person to make any decision if this is truly going to be a community project so anything I said above is subject to change once we get the founding members on board. So that no real decisions get made before we get a fairly good size group together nothing will be decided until we get at least 10 people willing to take part.

So far I have two different ideas for a direction we could go with the build. One would be to take the complete map of Route 66 lay it out stretched over the entire land space and then place semi-oversized landmarks one would find traveling down the road (so kind of like a 3d road map). My second idea would be to create just a patch of Rt. 66 with life size buildings like a burger-stand/Diner hangout with roller-skating waitress, hot rods and motorcycles and places like a gas station and shop to purchase items set in that era, things that could be used to host events and stuff. Maybe both ideas would be possible but would not want to create too much and slow the sim down.

What I have done is create a small building on the land, which can be used as a meeting place until we get this thing started. It can be found in the mid-west side of the Zoe sim near my Washington Monument project, where the Wild-West-Town used to be. The Zoe sim is the one that has the Furniture Store so you can use that as a general landmark.

Summary for those that don’t like to read: I’m looking for people that are adult and mature looking to get involved with a theme community / self-governance project based on Route 66.

Come see me in world to find out more.

I am not really a builder (more a scripter) so I can't help you build. But I would like to suggest that you take just a little piece and make it real size.
A small version of the complete route 66 would be nice, but the only thing you could do with it is look at it.
If you make it real size you could do interior and add some interactivity too (if you need help with that you can ask me :)

I stopped by the Route 66 project last night and all I can say is...WOW!! Nice work so far, I will definently be visting often. The 66 mustang is coming along nicely, and the A&W serves the best rootbeer in all of SL. All in all, great job!! Defenently going to become a favorite hangout for me.

We're going to be having an important event at Route 66 soon. Once all of the details are ironed out, we'll post on the events forum. Just thought you should be in the know.

I've been so busy with press lately, but got the briefest tour of the A&W stand and thought it looked just incredible! Great work. Will try and bring folks by on our various E3 demos.

George, et. al., just wanted to let you know that Route 66 is one of my favorite things in SL. What a fantastic job you guys did. I actually have a screen shot of it as my desktop background now :)
