Hi;

As i announced a few days ago, i have now released the JASSLibrary. It currently contains only 8 geometrical sculpties, but more will be added as they appear.

Following rules apply:

"You are only allowed to download the lib, if you send me feedback!" ;-)
"The library software is published under the GPL-license."
"The content is published under a free common license."

So basically, take it, use the content as you like. And if it is usefull for your tasks/applications/business... mention me somewhere. Here is the link:

http://blog.machinimatrix.org/jasslibrary-11/

The library is currently a blender only thing. I am not aware if other programs can upload sculpt-maps. If this is the case, and you want to get the sculpt-maps, either extract them using blender, or ask me. I will publish them separately if wanted.

Enjoy,
Gaia

Nice job, Gaia!

I don't think it is alone, but for sure the Wings 3D sculpty plugin can import sculpt maps. So publishing them as sculpt maps would certainly help out even more people.

I guess it makes sense to publish the sculpt-maps as .zip file then... ok, i will add that to the JASSLibrary documentation on the machinimatrix site later.

BTW: Is there anything to improve ? Does the library make sense at all ?

I currently only added LOD resistent basic geometrical sculpties. I did that because making good LOD-resistent Sculpties of that kind in general takes me more than a couple of seconds, while making non LOD-resistent sculpties (like the cube, which keira asked to add to the lib) is by far easier to make (as long as you have domino's scripts...).

So i tend to only add objects, which can not be made in a snap, but still have some value either for educational purpose or for practical purpose. My current list of additional "basics" is:

- I-Beam (almost LOD resistent)
- T-Beam (half of an I-Beam, LOD resistent)
- 2-In-One (example of 2 spheres made out of one sculptie)
- 2-Crossed-Planes (for tree production)
- Cross, symetric (For windows with 4 cassettes)
- Cross, asymetric (Stackable for Windows with 8 cassettes you will need 2 of them)

I also plan to add support for "custom libraries" so that you can add your own object-sets for special creations like shoes jewelery and so on, but still can refer to them through a simple popup-tree menu...

Will such support be of common interest ?
What do you think about that ?

Hi;

There is a bug in the library, which stops blender from baking the sculpt-map. This was just reported a few minutes ago by Effie Nadiv, who tested the lib. The problem is that i messed up the image associations. So blender thinks that the sculpt-images are available while they are actually not included in the distribution.

In principle blender does not nead the sculpt images, because it can bake them by itself. But i need to find out how i can keep it from trying to access the images from my computer.

Here is a simple workaround:

Before you bake do the following:

1.) Go to edit mode.
2.) Select all vertices.
3.) in the UV-editor: new image (select a size of 64*64)
4.) bake.

EDIT: JASSLibrary 1.1 is now available. That should fix the problem with missing image data. read more ... here:

sorry for any inconveniences ;-(

You are doing a great job Gaia! :)
There is much richer content in SL because of your untiring efforts.

How to install the userscripts directory
04-29-2009 15:00
If you can not install the JASSLibrary into the userscripts folder, or do not know how to do that, please follow this path :

1.) on the operating system: create a new directory at any convenient place
2.) place the content of the JASSLIbrary "scripts" folder into that directory
2b.) It may be a good idea to also copy Domino's scripts to the same folder.
3.) in blender: open the user preferences window
4.) move to the "file paths" section
5.) locate the "Python Scripts" input field
6.) Click on the directory icon of this inputfield
7.) in the file chooser navigate to your personal userscripts
folder (from point 1. above)
8.) click File -> Save Default Settings (to make this setup persistent)

If you forget point 8.) your settings will be lost when you restart blender.
That should help. If not, please say so, then i have to make a patch so that the JASSLibrary also can be downloaded to the blender standard scripts directory (although i dislike that ;-( )

i hope that helps.

jasslibrary-1.2 now installable in the default scripts folder
05-19-2009 16:26
Hi;

i just updated the jass-library script.

http://www.machinimatrix.org/svn/sl/distrib/jass-library-1.2.zip

After you downloaded the zip file, just drop the contained folder "jass" to your default scripts folder or to your user scripts folder. that's all you need to do. The benefit is that you can easily remove the scripts later by just removing the "jass" folder.

please tell me, if this does NOT work for you.

Hi Gaia,

Great work, say do you still have any plans to release them as sculpt maps.
I use hexagon for my sculpts and it can upload tga's as sculpts. A long time ago I used blender primarily for my sculpting but then went onto hex. Thanks in advance. :)
