Hi all:
When I go to edit an item, any item, and then I goto the textures tab and click on the texture window to select a texture I get a wierd 2 second (or so) delay before it opens.
My computer is brand new, built it myself, it's ridiculously powerful so it's nothing on my end. Anyone have this problem? Any suggestions?

For me that delay can be even longer, on my main account. I don't recall seeing it on my alts.
I think it's going through your inventory, or even re-downloading your inventory.

Possibly related to the recent round of server updates. Very annoying, when you're trying to build a lot. I've seen this as well, and I am not at all sure what to blame.

From: Argent Stonecutter It's not all that recent. …but recently it's got a lot worse. I never had to wait much for anything to download or rez, I would come into SL and everything was there, just a few fuzzy images but they would clear up in like 20 seconds, now I have to wait while standing on nothing at 800 meters for everything to build and rez around me, up to 20 minutes, that's a massive difference, for the record that's only happen to me in the last month, in the previous 22 months I had the good experience.

Nothing to do with main or alt nothing to do with inventory size nothing to do with texture size nothing to do with computer performance, internet speed, server speed etc etc.
It seems to be completely random
My main PC has that problem too, my laptop is much quicker on opening that window. On paper my laptop is slowwww compared to my main pc. less graphics memory, less ram, less cpu speed.
Both on same home network, laptop wireless.
Still it is quicker, and I found I have this issue since 1.20 viewer.

If you can, leave the texture selector open. Click the texture you want and do not hit the "select" button. No sense opening that dialog more often than you must.
I've found that the first time you open it it comes up fairly quickly.

Did a fair amount of texturing last night. Was on a mid-range system/video card, Windows XP client, and a very fast hard-wired Net connection (cable modem, with Gigabit Ethernet from the router to the computer and Cat-5 wiring all the way). Made sure I had already opened my inventory and fully indexed it before editing textures on prims. Every time I opened the texture picker, I had a several second delay - enough time to take several very leisurely sips of coffee, or enough to leave the room and get an item from the next room and get back before it was ready to use.
It looks like it is reindexing all your textures every time it opens the texture picker window. Once it does open, all textures are immediately available. Yet if you close the texture picker, you get the delay again the next time you open it.
Yes, leaving the texture picker open eliminates further delay, though it clutters the screen up horribly.
Just tried again on my high-end Mac. Same sort of network access, but faster CPU, Better video card, Macintosh OS X 10.5.5. Had no delay at all. Am not 100% certain if I have seen this delay while on the Mac. Will test again later today.
