How do you build an arch w/out having the points on the bottom ends?

Do you mean arches like one of these.......
All you have to do is take a cube or a cylindrical prim, make a circular hole in it, stretch it, and then use a path cut. The legs of the arch end up nice and square, parallel to the ground, not pointy. You can make much more complicated arches by linking several cut prims together (actually, the middle one in this picture is made of the two on either side, purely for decorative effect). |

You need a path cut of 0.125 and 0.625...

Ee, I am also interested in making those shapes for a build. Can you put that into more understandable text for those of us just starting out?
Thx, Cale |

Prims can only be hollowed out on the vertical Z axis, so 1-prim arches start out laying flat on the ground.
Rez a box prim. Make it hollow, about 75%. Change the hollow shape to circular. Set the path cuts to 0.125 and 0.625, which cuts away half the original prim. You now have a half-circular arch, laying on its side. Rotate the prim to stand the arch upright, and resize as desired. If the X and Y dimensions are unequal, the arch will be an oval shape. If you make the prim into a cylinder, the outer edge will also be curved, like the inset piece in Rolig's example. _____________________

For a 5-prim solution that makes a more architecturally correct style of Gothic arch, see this thread: /8/bd/253801/1.html

That chapel on RUCE 2 really is a beautiful bit of construction. I visited it for the first time a few weeks ago and was very impressed, and not just for the arches.
![]() In my quick response last night, I was assuming that the OP was looking for a way to make 1-prim arches. The ones that I slapped together are as simple as they get. A really attractive arch, though, is a multi-prim affair, like the ones Cerra built. It would be interesting to put together a photo collection of various arch styles in SL, to see what methods builders have used. Even a collection of LM, although those go stale after a while. Has anyone done that? |
