Gross Abuse of the word " Seamless"

I am posting this as more of a piece of advice than a complaint.. FYI


but!


I have been shall we say "checking out the competition" and am finding that the word seamless is being grossly mis-used by many texture sellers in order to make it look as if their product is supposed to be better or more "professional" for building with.

The truth is:

If you take a Hot Pink texture and a Puke Green texture and put it next to each other on aligned objects, as long as there is no gap between the prims, they also are seamless.

with that said...


!!! The word seamless in the texture world is a reference that a texture when tiled at more than 1x1 repeat on one prim gives a clean appearance without any visual discomfort making it look like it is one regardless of the number of repeats used. !!!


Please do not get fooled by the word seamless.


oh and the word professional is spelled with 2 s's not one you big Disrtiobuter of expensive textures you... hahah

This is why some texture vendors have the options to display 2x2, 4x4, etc. tiling. (The higher repetition numbers are useful for judging whether such repetitions will work in a build. For example, a strongly patterned marble texture will look bad repeated many times on a surface.)

Also revealed by such displays: Some textures are "tiled" to work with repetitions in both dimensions; some only repeat seamlessly in one dimension (which may be fine, depending on the texture and its use).

yeah a lot of so called seamless are overrated , tho the worse are those where the original material is mirrored 4 times and it looks like a horrible kaleidoscope...
