In order to save a lot of unique sculpt maps in my avatars, I plan to use the new mirror sculpt feature of recent clients. That makes it desirable to have mirrored instances of my objects in Maya, instead of mirrored copies (to always check that mirrored objects and their textures will fit to the unique sculpts).

While I can assign different textures to the mirrored instances, as soon as I try to use Mayas 3D paint module, I'm getting this warning here (and I can't paint on the mirrored instance):

// Warning: Some surfaces have no shader group, assign them and try again.

I tried my best to find a reason and a fix for that in the Hypergraph, including displaying all input and output connections of the mirrored instance in question. A shader group seems to be there (just strangely connected to the original geometry).

Does anybody know how to work with Mayas 3D Paint module and instances of objects?

Cheers,
-L
