New "Jump Sites" Debut At Welcome Area

We're giving trial residents a one-way ticket to the coolest places in Second Life. You might have already noticed three Jump Sites in the Welcome Area on the Ahern/Morris border. One click dispenses a landmark to a notable Second Life location, allowing the trial resident to easily find popular destinations while navigating their new surroundings.

The first three Jump Sites deal with life's necessities: shopping ("Shopping District";), building ("Building Area";) and, uh, gambling ("Gambling Arcade";).

Want to get your Second Life hotspot added as a Jump Site? Just submit your own location for these categories by posting to this thread. Or, suggest ideas for other Jump Site themes and locations.

We're looking for locations that are well designed, easy to navigate and involve interactive elements such as items for sale, objects to play with or places to explore. The focus is "Fun in SL" since we're trying to ensure that trial residents see all the world has to offer during their early visits.

We'll scan the ideas listed on this post and let you know by email if we can feature your location as a Jump Site. Jump Sites will be rotated frequently to ensure that qualified locations have a chance to benefit from the direct trial resident traffic.

Thanks!

I found it odd that the very first sign advertised gambling... :p

Trials can't actually gamble, right?

I don't know if it's interesting enough, or stable enough, even... But my Maimball physics-instrument is in Rose 234,157 as its final, permanent location. That sim seems to be fairly script and physics-free, so the Marimball plays about as smooth as it's going to get with the current Havok system. Over 90% success when playing any particular note.

It's not all the much to look at, but it is interactive. (And now the balls glow in the dark!) Good for a few minutes of messing about, at least. I can spruce it up for more frequent visitors if it's a candidate. :)

The Bazaar in Stillman should be another obvious place. Dunno how much cash the current Trials do get, but with credit-cardless newbies, the usual conversation went like this:

Newbie: "Where can I get stuff?"

You: "Hmm, try AV Central or the Shops in ... and ...".

Newbie: "I've been there, but stuff is so expensive and I don't have much cash".

You: "Tried the Bazaar in Stillman? Stuff there is free."

Newbie: "Oh, cool, why isn't there a huge sign at the start of the game which points me there?"

Ok, not quite, but you get the idea :-P

I agree with Ezhar...this has happened to me many times. Newbies tend to want to try and get as much as they can in very little time. I have met many trial newbies asking me where they can buy land an items at a low price because they want to add more things to their inventory. I tell them to wait 'til they become full members to start buying land and to just dedicate more time to exploring to see if they want to become full members and that if they want to spruce up their inventory they should go to the Bazaar. Then they ask me what is a bazaar, which leads to an explanation and to me giving them the landmark. :)
