Building in world imposes a lot of constraints, like not being able to build a set of eyes like I want.

I downloaded the Chip Midnight eye templates and have some cool looking eyes. Now what?

How do I save them and upload them so that SL recognizes this new object as a set of avatar eyes?

If you know, just tell me the file type (extension) and any tricks to uploading.

Your post is a bit confusing. To me word "building" means assembling prims. Or creating a 3d item offline and bringing it into second life.

You can make a 2D image in photoshop or the like and bring the TEXTURE (image) into second life and apply it to the avatar eyes. Open the appearance editor, and select eyes. You will see a small box labeled iris. Click on this and you can apply any texture in your inventory to the avatar eyes.

For more information on texture formats, see the sticky at the top of this forum.

If you are talking about something other than applying a texture (image) to the avatar, then we need more information on what you are trying to do.

To make avatar eyes, first you upload the eye textures as a texture into SL. So start with a .jpg or .tga file, sized to 512 x 512 or even 256 x 256, and import that eye texture into SL.

Now in SL, open your inventory, and one of the menu items in the inventory window is a choice to create a new body part, of type "Eyes". This will create an item in your inventory called "New Eyes", with you as the creator of them. Edit the name to suit your new eyes - "Killer Brown cat's eyes", or whatever.

Wear those eyes, and open the Appearance controls. In the editing options for the eyes, there is one view that shows the eye texture and an eye tint color as two squares to the left of some slider options. Leave the tint white, and drag your new eye texture to the place where it shows the default eye texture. Save the changes.

The set of eyes in your inventory can now be added to any avatar that uses Human avatar eyes. (As opposed to those with prim heads, that use prims for the eyes.). Make sure you set the next-user permissions on these eyes the way you want them to be, before selling or giving them away. Yes to copy and mod, and no to transfer is a good choice for most eyes.

Note that normal avatar eyes use the same texture for both eyes. If you want the eyes to be different from each other, you'll have to apply just the iris texture of your eyes to a small disc prim, and wear it on the eyes like a contact lens, using the eye attachment points.

Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

this forum.
Should that be "the texturing forum"?
