I have a volcano, and I want it to smoke. I put in a particle script for smoke, but when I get about 35M away, the particles stop appearing.
Is there a reasonable way to get it to be visible from a distance?

I "think" the larger the prim which contains the particle script, the further away you'll be able to see the particles? I might be misremembering this though.
Out of curiosity, I just put the default waterfall mist script in 10x10x1 prim and can see the particles 80m away. |

Particle emitters get a "bonus" in the LoD calculations (or they used to) but they will still get dropped from view, along with the particle system, when you get too far away. I use a transparent phantom 10M sphere for important particle systems like smokestacks and things.

Are there other particle emitters I'm the area? Your max particle count setting in your preferences is for your entire draw distance area. If a ton of particles are emitting from close by, more distant emissions will thin out.
You might also want to try making the particles themselves larger, in addition to increasing the size of the emitter. _____________________

we have a volcano that you can see the smoke for quite a distance- it is a mega prim sculpty with a moving texture- you are welcome to pop by and see it-
