Hi! You have my apologies if this topic has been covered before, or if this is in the wrong forum entirely. I looked around, didn't see anything promising, checked the FAQs to no avail, and this seemed like the best place to ask.
I'm a 3d modeler by trade. A lot of the texture work I do, I paint directly onto my model, rather than painting onto the UV map itself, as is norm.
Simply put, if I want to create shirts and clothing using my comfortable system, I'd need an OBJ or FBX copy of the 3d model used as a basic human avatar, to use as a sort of mannequin.
So is there any way I can get my hands on said model file? I'd greatly appreciate any thoughts y'all have.
Thank you! =)

Putting second life avatar obj file into Google yielded http://secondlife.com/community/avatar.phpas the first link which yields http://static.secondlife.com/downloads/avatar/avatar_mesh.zipas a place to download the SL avatar mesh as poser characters and obj files.

...why didn't I think of that? That's what I get for posting late at night, I guess. =) I wonder if they're already UV-mapped. If not, that's cake.
Thanks so much! =D Much appreciated.

Thanks so much! =D Much appreciated. Yes, and no. The .obj is the entire avatar mesh, so unless you select just the proper vertices, you'll get all three UV maps on top of each other, though they are correctly mapped. Take a little bit of time, though, and you can split it relatively easily. I've done so for Blender, but nothing else: http://speedmodeling.org/smcfiles/Amor_Inflexi_sl_avatar_templates2.blend

I appreciate the offer, but the program I have is Modo, so I can't use those. ^^;
if the UV maps are all in place, and identical to the wireframe shown on the .PSD texture templates, then it's a very simple matter of overlaying them and cutting them apart as necessary.
If not, well, I can unwrap the whole thing from scratch and match it up with the template vert by vert if I need to.

I am not the best person to be trying to answer this question, but it seems to me that the texturing forum will have links to obj files like you are looking for.
My brain's not being real clear at the moment, so to put in ignorant person's language, I think the stock files from LL come in to some programs looking kind of lumpy or choppy, but that there are versions that have been corrected by users to look better.

Really now? Well, Modo is a bit of an unknown program, so I don't know that other people will have used it for this purpose. But I'll certainly have a look. Thanks for the tip!
