Blender and surface textures?

Hi,

I'm starting to pull my hair out trying to apply a surface texture to my sculpts.

So far, the sculpts I have done haven't been too detailed. But now I'm starting work on some where painting directly onto the sculpt would be a godsend. Is there a way to do that in Blender?

And related to that, I have had no luck getting a surface texture to actually display in edit mode, only when rendering a scene. I know I'm missing something easy. :(

Hi Jerboa,
Welcome to the baldies club - my hair all went some time back trying to get my head round Blender and the sculpties thing. :D
Lots of much more experienced people out there but here's my tuppenceworth. I would firstly direct you to the machinimatrix tutorials - http://blog.machinimatrix.org/. That's where I learned how to handle textures (sort of!).
The Texturizing sculpties with multiple images one shows the settings for how to paint direct on the model and you need to switch to Texture Paint in the Mode options and 'Textured' in the Draw Type to see what the texture looks like on the model.
Hope that helps.
You're on a long path to enlightenment if you're following my route! Maybe you'll overtake me!
