anybody want to share a technique on how to make great looking windows using regular prims?
I have been working with some very ornamental Windows and am still not sure what works better.
I discarded the idea of making the window part of a wall with alpha!
Considering all the components such as Wall, Window Frame, Mullions and Glass (in several opacities that need to be thought of.. this could be quite involved.
any ideas or tips/tricks? What works best for you?
thanks \m/

a nifty trick i tend to use is cutting and hollowing.
a hollow cube with circle as the hole and the cut to make it appear as a corner makes great looking corner decoration for windows.
experiment with hollowing and cutting. prim torture is also suggested if you wish for some interesting effects.

From: Dekka Raymaker you could look at the sculpty window frames? I will the day that they can be textured properly because the idea of them is good .. I have been making the frames with alpha on 2 sides and putting a solid color insert with glass so I can change the transparency manually or via script.. I am still lokking to figure out how to handle window shades though...

That's not bad .. can the pieces dividing the panes be super thin to make them look more to scale?

Yes. I made these thick so you could see the texture. I can reel these off in lots of different sizes/ pane numbers/ bar and frame thicknesses. The texturing should be even better when the new oblong sculpties arrive. I put this just to show what can be done. I am not selling these. Made them for myself. I don't want to undermine people by making them free. So .... Actually I don't use them because, although they are ok for 2 LOD steps, the delayed sculpt map loading means they look terrible for quite a while on arrival. I believe that bug is fixed in the new RC though.
