Blender: repeating elements within a single sculpt?

ok, so I'm making this thingy in Blender, and, if possible, I'd like to repeat one chunk of it (the bit that's selected in the attached images) without having to sit there pushing around vertices one at a time.

Is there a way to do that in Blender? Some 'copy&paste' (or whatever) type operation that would allow me to apply the shape I made in one piece of my sculpt to another?

Am I being even remotely clear?

(The SL forums aren't allowing me to post images, it seems, but if you need the visual aid, I've posted this same question @ the SL Universe forums, as well, where I *could* post images...)

Within a single mesh, I don't believe so, no. (I could be wrong, but I haven't yet found anything to enable this).

However, if you're talking multiple meshes, you can drag copies using SHIFT+D, or use the Array modifier to create them in a specific number/location/etc. Also, if you've got the meshes out, and you want two exactly the same, you can change the Datablock, to match. This will change the mesh, materials, and so on to match exactly (Aside from size, location, and rotation). This can be found in the 'Links and Materials' section of the Buttons window, just above the Vertex Groups section.

Then, there's also the 'Shrinkwrap' modifier, but with such low-poly meshes you'll just get a rough approximation of the original shape.

Personally, when creating a repeating single-mesh object, I just attempt to edit as many bits simultaneously as I can manage. When doing moves, select all the sections that move the same amount in whatever direction, when doing scales, constrain and select creatively to manage multiple parts, and so on.

However, if you DO find out about such an ability in a single mesh, please post it here! I'd love to know it!

(Also, though you can't attach images in most of the SL Forums, you can still use the BBCode IMG tags to link to images hosted outside the site)

There is a way to do this. You'll need to know Blender's mesh edit tools and understand the sculptie UV layout to do it. Apply any modifiers and multires before starting.

1) Select the target area on the sculptie, make sure it's face count and UV layout is one less all around than the part you want to copy. eg a 6 x 6 square section to receive an 8 x 8 copy. Then press X and delete vertices.

2) In edit mode, select the part you want to copy and press shift d. You'll get a copy of the selected part of the mesh that you can move around. Move it into position.

3) Check the UV layout and move the UV for the copied section into the hole left by the delete. (sychronise UV and mesh selection is a useful option to turn on here)

4) Join the copied part to the sculptie by using merge vertices on the edges. This is why we left extra around the hole.

5) You should now have what looks like a normal sculptie mesh and UV.

PS: I'm not up for playing hunt the post on SL Universe. The easier you make it for us to help, the better the advice can be. At least include a link to the relevant topic in future please :)

oops!

Indeed, I'd meant to include a link to the SLuniverse post, but was distracted by the inability to include pictures (thanks, Keira, for the tip on that ^^ ). My apologies for the annoyance it caused you...

Anyhoo...
In the SL Universe post (http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/content-creation/29491-repeating-elements-within-sculpt.html), Miriel Enfield put up a very thorough (and illustrated!) version of what looks like the same tip you've got here, Domino, so between the two of you, I think I've got it figured out. Thanks! :)
