The BTAC has been a group for several months, but has not been particularly active or focused AS A GROUP. (As individuals, some great work has been done!) However, I thikn that the BTAC is about to become much more relevant to SL with the advent of v1.2. With that in mind, I have created this vision statement. I understand that some of the current members may have joined without expecting such a focused effort, and those who chose to move on do so with our best wishes and hope for continued friendship!
Goal: The Bhodi Tree Gallery seeks to facilitate artistry, craftsmanship and the free exchange of ideas in Second Life by providing funding, exhibition space and mentoring for SL artists.
- Funding: The BTAC will periodically issue Requests for Proposals from the artists community in SL, providing those whose proposals are found most compelling by the Grants Committee with funding to complete their projects. Additionally, weekly events are held to provide cash awards to the hardworking artists of SL!
- Exhibit Space: The Bhodi Tree Gallery, while it will remain solely owned by Bhodi Silverman, is the main exhibit space for the BTAC. As prim limits depend on land ownership, we feel this space will be even more important to SL's artists - particularly newer ones. Additionally, members of the BTAC will be encouraged to display the work of in-world artists on their own property. We believe display space is going to be an increasinly difficult commodity for traditionally "poor" artists and hope to alleviate the need for real life funds in their work by ensuring that the good work gets seen.
- Mentoring: The BTAC members will be encouraged (and paid) to provide "Master Classes" in various techniques and craftsmanship issues. These may be SL specific, such as a class on scripting and texturing to obtain certain kinetic effects in in-world sculpture, or unrelated to the specifics of SL, such as color theory. These classes will be offered to the general public, but registration preference will be given to BTAC members if the classes become full. (As with all master classes, only a certain number of students will be accepted for each class to ensure the instructor has time to give each individual attention.)
I hope that many of you who aren't members will agree that our mission is worthwhile and consider joining - and that those of you who are will welcome this increase in focus and direction!
