How would you like to see particle effects sold?

Hi everyone and thanks in advance to all who respond - all input will be carefully considered. I'd very much like to offer a line of quality particle effects but am at a loss as to how to best balance my concerns (keep scripts and textures private) and those of the buyer. Effects would include everything from basic fire - water - mist etc... to more abstract effects suitable for either simple eye candy or things like magic spells etc... My basic idea, at this point, is to offer all effects as copy/no mod/no trans for a reasonable price and include several different sizes with each purchase. For example, if the effect were a fireball I might include 6 sizes with a single purchase - ranging from .5 meter up to 5 meters. I would allow for control of particle color in all appropriate effects as well as include a sound effect if applicable. I'm hoping this would satisfy the needs of those purchasers who just wanted an effect for their own parcel/build and had no intention of selling. My plan then would be to advertise all effects as able to be purchased with copy/trans perms with the following conditions: 10 times the cost of the copy only version (nine times the cost with purchase of original copy only version.) Buyer would indicate size/area covered, desired particle color and preference for touch activation or chat activation.
Is this too complicated for most or does it look overly restrictive? Will I be making people less eager to buy a copy/trans version with this system (having to contact me instead of purchase copy/trans directly?) What I would be providing the copy/trans purchaser would be basically one tailor made emitter and/or script (with sound if applicable) with copy and trans permissions. I have noticed that a surprising number people who've purchased my products are trying to isolate the particle effect (for example hiding a fountain behind other prims just to use the fountain jet itself) so am assuming there is a market for this kind of thing.

I'm not a huge fan of using notecards to edit particle scripts because I've noticed that 1) those who know enough about the particle system to effectively use this method may not need such a product to begin with 2) those that don't seem almost as confused by this method as they would be by the script itself and some very "wrong" looking effects can result. Do most purchasers need this level of control or would a variety of premade sizes suffice? If the notecard system is what the majority want then I'll go that route but am wondering if there is a simpler way.

What would YOU like to see? If you were shopping for a particle effect to include in your next build (personal or resale) what would you look for and what would make you feel more confident that you would get what you paid for? I'd love to hear the perspectives of both resellers and those who just need interesting and useful particle effects for their home and group projects.

Thanks and happy holidays to all.

My suggestion: Keep it simple, and use a written agreement. The reason being that particle systems were cracked long ago, it's trivial to extract them and make a duplicate script. There's not much use in making your paying customers jump through hoops, when someone who isn't your customer at all can easily snag it.

Interesting Viktoria - could you be referring to the particle info display accessed through the Advanced menu? This gives quite a bit of info but it would take someone experienced with particle scripts to "fill in the blanks" so to speak and would certainly give no information about the texture used. What exactly are you referring to that would extract a script without mod rights? Klyks

libsl includes a tool that can grab a particle system with a single command and produce a script to duplicate it. This kind of thing is kind of unavoidable since particle systems are ultimately prim properties, so the details have to be sent along the wire :/ So ultimately, you really want the buyer to agree to some kind of explicit license, even if you do choose to throw up some permissions hurdles.
