Mysterious glowing green $ signs?

Recently I have noticed that, as I pass the cursor over some objects, a mysterious glowing green $ sign appears, yet the item is not set for sale. New items by leading designers have this odd feature. There does not appear to be any script in these items which might cause this. In one instance, the item was actually set for sale, but when clicked 'buy', I was unable to buy it. No message appeared.

I do not like this, and I very much hope that this does not appear on items I have made.

Can anyone explain this, please, and how I can be certain to avoid it happening on items I have made?

You mean the regular $ cursor? In the edit window, General tab, bottom, is the default click action set to buy? If the item is modifiable, you should be able to tick that over to Touch/grab, you are stuck with it if it's no mod :/

Sorry, I am confused by your reply, Viktoria, although I do thank you.

No, this is just passing the usual arrow cursor over a view (say, parkland with trees) and suddenly, just recently, this green $ sign appears. Other ppl have observed it too. This is with no clicking done. The 'usual' small window of information about a 'set for sale' item does not appear, but clicking into edit shows that the item is not set for sale.

I saw this today on a bridge which a friend had bought, and she was puzzled why this $ icon appeared to her too. She had also seen it over several carpets she had bought recently - having bought them, there is no reason why they should still show a $ icon.

Then, just to confuse things, a few days ago, I saw it appearing on trees (which I did wish to buy). In edit they said for sale, but the 'buy' section of edit did not respond when i tried to buy it.

I am very puzzled by this.

Right, set for sale and the buy cursor are separate settings. You can't turn on the buy cursor unless an item is already set for sale.

But (and this is the bad part), the buy cursor will stay set even if the item becomes no transfer, or it is no longer set for sale! The only way to turn it off, if permissions allow, is to change the "When left-clicked" setting in the edit window (not the for sale setting).

This is a very common problem when items are set for sale as "buy a copy". The cursor stays there if the sold copy is no modify. (The only real solution is for sellers to stop turning on that setting when they sell things that way!)

I understand what you are saying, Viktoria, thank you, but the items in question were actually all 'modify/copy'.

I shall look at the edit screen as you suggest but it does remain a puzzle until then...

Thanks from Ainee

Also happens when a builder uses parts of a previous build that was set for sale. Example: Rez 2 cubes, and link them. Set for sale for some amount. Then while still for sale, unlink them. One will be set for sale for the original price. The other will not be for sale, but if you run your cursor over it, it will show the green $L. If you try to buy it, it will say it's not for sale.

Aha! Thank you, Hodgey. That would explain it! This confirms my good practice of always rezzing new prims, and immediately setting them to copy/mod/transfer before I start work on a new build! Hurrah! No glowing green signs!
