Are large group projects in SL dead?

I'm talking about the Americana, Little Tokyo, Venice, and Slate type groups. I haven't looked around for these lately, but one of the main things that kept me in SL initially was the cooperative community projects like that. What were they called...? Ah--themed sims!

So...any left? (Assuming they're looking for new members or brand new projects of course. I only ask because I'm ISO inspiration for a project to work on! As usual?)

But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. some of the americana group are in taber now. it's a mostly themed sim. the slate group still exists and owns about 2/3 of the sim. i don't know about little tokyo or venice except that there is a little venice in bonifico.

let's see, the kissling group owns most of that sim and tyrell still owns gibson and half of bonifico. darkwood is still active. if you can afford land in the city, they're starting to formalize.

with so many new ones being formed, people are very picky when filling out their ten group limit. so the new ones are staying fairly small which is okay because it's becoming feasible for small groups to own sims and complete large scale projects. as land costs decrease, i think you'll see most of the large groups cull down to a reasonable size.

i suppose we'll always have a few really large social groups.

Actually no..David Cartier,Lyel Blair,Callan Pickney and myself are actually rebuilding in Dore on group land, our vision of or tribute to the old DarkWood Village started by Nexus Nash and a few others way back in Beta. Dore was the original setting for the DarkWood Village and soon after DarkWood Sim was added. Hopefully soon you will see such things as:
Meeting space,Pier with Mill and Smithy, a town square, and many shops, various homes and other structure to help imbue DarkWood again and also be a stepping stone into the Wilds of DarkWood and its' residents beyond. It is our hope that the members of DarkWood would like to set up shop in some of these buildings to help the entire DarkWood Community.

Some members were not happy with the idea of roads but they obviously thought that we were going through the Rest of DarkWood. But we hope that the other members will maintain their wonderful builds and continue on to the Adventure that is DarkWood.

Oh and RPG events will hopefully take place there once it is completed. But the rest of the area is open and running and we have a great bunch of Landowners there..Stop by their builds and see them.

Peace..
Soren

check out the thread Ryen Jade started about a themed sim.. which will also be an 'RPG' of sorts. it's a cyber-punk type thing.. and yes, it's actively being developed.. and it's a BIG project.. BIG BIG BIG!!! ..and very cool too

the thread i'm talking about:
[Celina] project

the name may be changed, but that's what it is for now.. as far as i know..

Coincidentally I just found out about that project last night in a spur of the moment chat. It does sound interesting. Still, I'll probably end up joining more of a 10-15 member sized "themed sim" project if I ever join one. Little Tokyo is defunct now AFAIK (I joined the group just a few months before it died out), maybe that's why I'm fixated on that approximate sized group. :p

:( Yea as far as I know LT finaly completely crumbled. It was going realy strong for a while there but we sprung a leak in our gumption tank, nothing was getting done. I finaly through in the towel after threatening twice. I belive Hikaru took up the flag for a while but I haven't heard what came of that.

I think Large groups in SL die due to modivation and managment issues. Decisions have to be delegated and its hard at times to accept other peoples decisions on your art/code/idea for the project. LT's school was a great example of a group project that went together swimmingly. It even got torn down (due to server roll back) after half finished and it got put up all the same. That was a perfect group project IMHO.

The Kazenojin are still going along at Gray .. it's harder to see the changes, since so much of it is high in the sky. We have our Dogfights regularly ... Cubey ran one over the weekend, I think.

The Great Second Life Railway is doing fine as a group ... our code is still in progress, though. People are nicely interested though.
