I guess there's no way at all to overcome the limitation of say making something hollow to a number higher than 95%

I have tried to make a very small curved blanket which meant a hollow cylinder cut away to leave just part of the actual curve, but with only a 95% hollow it still looks a bit thick for a blanket layer.

I'm thinking something like a prim which is say 2m x 1m with curved up sides (in just 1 direction I guess) but nice and thin

As I say the only way I could think of making this was a large cylinder, with most of it cut away to leave just part of the curve and a 95% hollow.

You could use a tube instead of a cylinder and profile cut the thing to make it paper thin.

You could!

Other than that, use a sculpty. Sculpties make lovely blankets and are much warmer in winter.

or a Torus too!

Edit: on second thoughts maybe not, can't remember offhand how the profile cut works on that.

Thanks for the replies

Will try the other shapes you suggest

I'd LOVE to make it from a Sculptie, but I've no idea how and would like to know a easy program I could use to create one with.

Wings would make a good blanket. Be sure to look at the Wiki for information about using Wings. Also, look at the You Tube videos.

In the Wiki, there is a simple pillow. I can send you that if you like.

I believe there are two solutions. This applies to many things in the SL GUI, but I'm not sure it applies here.

In several cases, such as transparency, the GUI limits you to keep you from shooting yourself in the foot, but you can change the values either by changing your GUI (google SL XUI for more info, but not for the weak-kneed), or by writing a script to set the value.

Perhaps someone here can pipe up if this one is truly limited to 95%, or whether the GUI imposes the limit. Could be either way.

Scuplty would be better in any case, though. I loaded Wings once and blanched. Didn't know how to get off the ground. Maybe someday!

quick tip: Right-click for menus. The top menu bar has most of the stuff common to other software too (save file, open file, etc.) but most of the 3D modeling tools are accessed by the menu that pops up when you right-click.

Must admit, I tried Wings quickly and ran away screaming....!! LOL

All I really saw was some default shapes you could generate in the centre of the screen (box, circle, pyramid etc) then you highlighted parts of the object and could pull/push it about a bit.

Must admit to feeling totally lost

I started out with sculpties using Wings. It's really not that hard, and for a freebie program is really quite powerful.

I'm fond of Natalia Zelamanov's sculpted prim tutorial series. It's a good overview of the principles, and shows you how to use the main tools in Wings (also explains how to use Rokuro). It's VERY easy to follow:
