So I decided to make some waterslides and was chatting with a friend and he said "just change the prim type to glass for less friction" and I was all like, prims have types?

And yes they sure so, you can choose from stone, metal, glass, wood, flesh, plastic and rubber, in the prim material selector. And yes changing your prim type from wood to glass does lower the friction tremendously.

But I have yet to find any documentation about the attributes of these settings. I threw the words "prim" "attributes" and "material" in every forum and search I could think of, and followed a few threads, but nothing.

And since I didn't even know this slider existed for the past few years, then it is safe to say that many don't either. It can only be changed on single prims, so when you link multiples the option is greyed out.

Anyway, so what are the differences? I mean having 7 variables must do something, of why would have it survived in the client? Aside from my test runs going a lot better with the slides made of glass I am clueless.

Prim material affects the "thud" sound of a prim and its apparent mass, friction, and bounciness. (^_^)

Some details can be found here : http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/PRIM_MATERIAL (^_^)y

Thanks, I figured there was a page buried somewhere on the wiki.
