one way mirrored surface

Hi,
I have been slowly working on a project. I would like for certain surfaces to be clear from one side, and mirrored on the other. From what I have only been able to make one object phantom, and another shiny, and attach them . I can see through it one way, and the other is the shiny appearance. Is it even possible to get a real mirror appearence? Also can I do this all on one object rather than attaching two surfaces? I do not remember any surfaces in secondlife that reflect except for water. Thanks for your time!

this has been discussed as before and the verdict was that it's something that isn't possible in SL.

BUT...

i just thought of one possibility, but i'm not sure if it's possible at all..

basically, the prim would have to be scripted to show the opposite view.. and i don't think that's feasible.. or even possible.


so, no.. doesn't look like it. maybe in the future we could get truly mirrored surface texturing as a feature.. *shrug*

Well we can't do mirrors yet, but you can do this on one prim instead of two, since you ask.

When editing the prim, select "Select Texture" -- it lets you select a single side of a prim and manipulate just that texture. Do this on both sides, one with a 100% transparent texture and the other with the shiny stuff on it.

Voila! One prim with a different texture on the two opposite sides.

I figured the mirror was not allowed since everyone would have mirrored surfaces and there goes the framerate. Another thing I am interested in, is for the texture, i have been doing phantom, which works, but you still see outline and such.(kinda whiter slightly) I found a item today called "box". It is interesting because when you type the words box off, it appears to disappear. You can not even click on it. It is there though, because it is still on radar, and if you have it in edit mode you can see the texture disappear. Type "box on" and its back. The effect I am trying to achieve is a sunroof totally clear one way, mirrored on the other.
Anyone have anything to add, feel free, I am a sponge :D

Then you have to use a 100% transparent texture. I will send you one in-game... it's call 100% Transparent... look for it soon.
