I have noticed a great difference in the way the world looks with local lighting on and off. When I am trying to design a room or my landscape I often wonder how it will look to others. It seems that some of the settings can drastically alter the way the world looks on your computer. I was just wondering how many people use the Local Lighting option, since that seems to be the one that changes the appearance the most.
Sorry if this post is in the wrong place. I couldn't decide where best to place it.
Thanks.

For me, it depends on which of 2 computers I'm using at the time.
For my laptop that has a flakey ATI chipset, I turn off all of the visually enhancing options, including local lighting.
But on my desktop, that has a nice nVidia card, I crank everything on, so that I can enjoy the enhanced look of the world.

Read this thread for more answers. /invalid_link.htmlIn short, it's about 50/50, so that you need to design for both configurations. As if it weren't hard enough to design for either one by itself. It can be done, however. Check out Neil Protagonists brilliant work on the WhiteStar casino in Chartreuse.

Definitely check out this thread aslo... /8/d9/23343/1.htmland take a look at Jimmy's examples. The Whitestar by Neil and Neph Protagonist is another excellent example of this kind of technique. I personally leave local lighting on all the time because you can really make things look beautiful at night. I think you miss a lot with it turned off.

I leave it off because I don't like how light goes through solid prims.
