Hey, you new people just now reading the forums--or you oldies who missed the posts on this group a while ago--the Writer's Circle is a group with open membership looking to unite creative writers/thinkers who might want to share and produce creative writing. If you think you might want to get involved in something like this, please join! If enough members sign up, we can start holding our first meetings and think about what our group can do. :) Thanks!

(There are no obligations or prerequisites or anything like that to join. Looking for creative minds, is all. :D)

Some questions:

- Where would we/do you meet?
- What would we write? Is fanfic allowed?
- Is this to publish books/texts in game?
- Can we also write scripts for in-world plays?

Yes, Yes, Yes, and Yes. In short, nothing is set in stone. Unfortunately, last night when I checked, there were only 4 members to the group. Pretty much once a group is established we can hold a meeting and just throw out all of our ideas like that. If there's enough members, I'd love to have a million things going on at once (after all, don't writers tend to be cluttered with EVERYTHING? hehe.) But those things were totally considered beforehand and I'd love to see them encorporated in the group's project.

I'm glad to see some responses! :) :)

I dont normally have a lot of time to play in world, but I love to write and would like to join in the fun. With whom must I make contact with?

Actually, you don't have to contact anyone, it's open invitation. Click on Find in the bottom toolbar in-game, then click on the Groups tab. Type "writer's circle", hit enter, you'll see the group, you'll see the "join now" clicky--click that, and you're in. :)

Sounds interesting. I would be interested in joining, only problem might be that I'm in Norway (GMT+1) and probably at sleep or at work when you meet. But I guess I'll join up anyway.

Maybe we could set up a kind of inworld forum object (don't know if this is possible to script). Somewhere where members of the group could leave texts and other members could give feedback. Of course, meetings would be cool too...but I don't think I will be able too attend many. :(

Dae -- we should do an event where the members can meet each other and chat about what genres interest them, etc. How about it?

Little -- I don't think that'd be that difficult to script. Actually, all it would take is pegging a prim inworld somewhere and making it and its contents accessible to group members only (to reduce noise from non-members and possible griefing). I think, anyway. :) If not, we could find someone with more scripting-fu to do something like a modified mailbox script.

We'd have to set up a system of commentary, as well. Maybe give a mutually agreeable time limit for commenting on a specific piece, and preface comments in the notecard so that they're easier to notice. Or separate review notecards. That'd mean no anonymous reviews, which is probably just as well.

Actually. It'd be really cool if someone could script an object to work like one of those thing-of-the-devil automated phone systems: "Press one to add a new work for consideration. Press two to review an existing piece." and so forth.

I would definitely be interested. . . I've wanted for awhile to set up a writing workshop, but know the pitfalls of online ones.

Perhaps people in SL would be more dedicated since, if they failed to submit for their week, we could all go and point at them and laugh ;)

So, yeah, count me in :)

What a great idea. I'll join the group when i'm next online.

Also since i am in a diff timezone (GMT+10) which means when i get on most of you guys are asleep or going to bed, I think the above idea about a group mailbox of sorts is teriffic, and would be a safe place to store our writings.

Actual meetings would be a must too, to work on ideas. Perhaps weekends would be easier for people from diff timezones to meet??

I'm so glad that there's a response to this group! I just got to college so I just wanted to post that i think all these ideas are great. We can definitely hold various event meetings to suit everyone's time zones. And Nergal--I agree, we'll need to set one up soonish to get our ideas flowing. :)

I am very much interested! I write a lot, and since joining SL
a short time ago, my writing has only seemed to increase,(those notecards are so handy). Lots of inspiration to be found and would love to share some time tossing ideas around with like minded folks.

I was going to say count me in when I read the first post, then I saw how many posts there are! How many folks have already joined up? I don't want to clutter a possibly already overcrowded group!

Bhodi, please do join. . . if something happens and we get enough people for a couple of different writing groups, all the better.

Although, as it now stands, I think the number of the above posts is representative of the number of people in the group.
