Did you know that Second Life has a vehicle park? Have you ever been there? Let us know what you think...

Please dont tell me the vehicle sims are on the chop block. There is nowhere else worth driving/flying/boating

Are you looking for comments? -The vehicle park is the only spot that makes a lot of vehicles possible. The old part of the world is simply uncrossable unless you go VERY slowly. -It's too small. The addition of the southern continent to it was a wise choice! -I spend maybe a third of my SL time there. If it was set up to be bigger, have occasional spots available for limited permanent builds and have terrain re-dos from time to time, I and most everyone in Kazenojin would move there in an instant!

There's no agenda here except to get some feedback on the sims and whether they're meeting everyone's needs and fun besides!
Comments are most welcome, but if you have time, please also use the survey.
Thanks!

My computer is too slow to have any fun racing, but it was fun to time myself

I suggested it before, but most of those little road marker signs should be made phantom. none of the vehicles I have tried have precise enough steering (for me anyway) to avoid hitting them and coming to a dead stop. Hmmm, maybe that is why they are there, to force us to become better drivers...

They're fun if you're the only one around, but when you get over about 4 people driving around in an area, SL just can't keep up anymore (my experience).
That, and physics are still a little crazy. The vehicles themselves work great, but if you ever collide with anything that isn't a vehicle... Hold on to your hats

I love the vehicle sims! I have spent a lot of time there, racing friends, hanging out trying different vehicles and in general just having fun These sims are the only place to drive around that's really worth it

Gotta agree with Buck about the road signs. The vehicle park, in my opinion, is a NECESSARY part of SL.

I like the vehicle sims. I've raced against both other people and the clock (63 seconds on the blue track, 46 on the green track). I use it as a testing ground for vehicles.
If you're running into the road signs, perhaps you should practice driving more. I still run into the signs occasionally, but only if I'm trying for a speed record on one of the tracks. If I'm just doing a causal practice run, or testing a new vehicle, it's extremely rare for me to hit a road sign.

Vehicle sims are essential for testing (and just enjoying) vehicles. I built a lot of vehicles and am working to 'perfect' my scripts and all...it's a lengthy process but open land, sea, and vehicle sims are essential for this.

The vehicle sims were the best thing to happen to SL! It's the ideal spot for the SLRA events (where *else* could the be?) like races and dogfights. I fly and/or drive there daily. I couldn't imagine SL without them.
I would really like it if the course markers were phantom, however, because most vehicles get hung up on them.
Please don't take away the vehicle simes! Not even one!

I don't use this area often, but I do respect their use greatly and the fun the bring and I wont forget my first time ever flying inside a vehicle in SL and it was Cubey and it was a great time. Definetly something everyone should try at least once. Cubey is a great pilot - we didn't hit a single mountain and landed very nicely. Briana Dawson

Don't worry all, we have no intention of taking away the Vehicle Park. We just want to learn how people are using it and how we can improve on the design.
We found this handy forum poll tool and thought we would give it a go.
Thank you for all your input. Keep it coming.

I'm not answering this poll because there isnt an answer for me to check.
I have seen the park and used it on a very limited basis. I like it, I support that a sim (or 4) is being used for this reason and I think a good addition is an ocean sim for boating. Not just a waterway, a full sim ocean of Linden land.

I still get a lot of weirdness while passing between sim boundaries (ie falling through the ground or unresponsiveness).
I understand this is a complex issue becuase it's an inherent problem with the grid architecture; fortunately, this is really the only complaint I have with vehicles.

I don't use the vehicle sim except to fly(no vehicle) through it on my way to the sandbox.
I like the idea of the vehicle sims and think they should stay.
but could you put another teleporter near the sandbox? I mean, its not like there are builds in the vehicle sims for me to stop and look at.

I dont like racing games in general, they're boring and repetitive, so I haven't tried out the racing sims. I used to love ONE game though - 4D stunts racing, mostly because I could build my own tracks and they were so cool, you could have loopings, corkscrews, so much different stuff. It really added a much needed level of complexity that isn't present in any other racing game I've ever heard of.

The vehicle sims have three rez areas already: Busy Ben's, the one near the blue track start, and an unmarked one at the start of the go-kart track. A longer return on objects would be nice, though.

But vehicles in their conventional sense don't really appeal to me too much since I usually blow away the limit without trying. My jet is pretty minimal on detail and pushes 70 prims. Lol, it's an acquired art Maxx. But looking at your great detailed builds in Avalon, I can see where you would run into some trouble -Bone

i'm sure opinions on the vehicle sims have been given before in another thread, but still..
The signs really need to be addressed. What with lag and vehicles not having fine enough controls it just gets frustrating very quickly snagging them. Either tetxture the floor with arrows, or lift them out of the way, or use fewer - whatever.
The Sim border transition (and sometimes crash/freeze) really fractures the driving experience for me, I end up becoming too aware of the edges, rather than just enjoying the space.
Further rez areas deeper in would be good. Having to zip out to come back in is a bit rubbish.
More varied scenery. They are just too barren and lacking in landmarks that we can navigate by. Yes I know you are trying to keep lag down, but it lacks personality as an area.
I do like them, and think they are worthwhile (SL badly needs more open space) but I dont visit them much for the reasons listed above.

i tried it once and never went back. the boat stopped at every border and required me to get out and reattach to restart.
the flying motorbike stalled midsim several times and required the same routine to begin operating again.
i boat around quite a bit and very rarely have border problems in the inhabited sims. i wonder if the speed in the empty vehicles sims is just too fast for the clients to track over the net.
remember when pentiums and windows98 came out and everybody's flight navigator planes were nosediving into the ground. i believe microsoft had to totally rewrite the program.
