Sorry, reposting this here as no response under Technical Issues.

OK this first happened to me a few weeks back but I really want to know if it's something *I* did to stop it happening again.

I bought a prefab house for my piece of land - placed it, positioned it and started putting things inside - While I was positioning a sofa or something I managed to move a piece of the floor instead - tried putting it back, then carried on...this happened again with a window a few mins later. This time I could not get it back in the exact same place again so the whole front of the house looked like crap. I could not relink the pieces, I got some message about not having "permission"

So in the end I trashed the house and bought another one. The SAME thing happened again but this time I managed to save the house from being trashed by running round and locking all the pieces down so they could not be moved. Finished decorating and lived there happily until the time came that my neighbour wanted to swop my parcel for the one next to it so she could have adjoining parcels. We did the swop and when it came to my clearing out my stuff so I could move it over I tried relinking the pieces of my house but again, got the message about not having permission. I tried unlocking all the pieces which all started to move about as I was going round selecting them to link (What is up with this? I am just using Alt and the directional buttons to get the right angle...why does this cause pieces of house to move around? After unlocking everything I tried to relink again...Got the same message about not having permission.

So house is basically trashed again.

So this is two houses I have lost now, which cost me in total abou $750L. I just want to know whether this is something I did, that caused the pieces to unlink themselves? I asked a friend if there were a keyboard shortcut to make a linked prim delink itself and he said it was ctrl shift and U, which I dont see how I could have done just while moving furniture with the mouse and pressing Alt and directional buttons.

Any help would be appreciated

OK, this may or may not be of help to you.

Firstly, linking the parts of a house isn't that important, so long as they're locked. In fact, I can think of some situations where linking them would cause problems.

Secondly, if you want to pick up the whole house to move it, try moving your camera above the house, zooming out a bit and using click and drag to select everything (I suggest practicing on some random stuff first though before you try it on something where a mistake could damage it), and either 'take' the whole thing as a group, or move it as a multiple selection.

OK... these are useful for further moves, but not for now.

If the house is still there, but as you say 'trashed', then maybe it can be fixed. Give me a call in world and I'll see what can be done. Or if not me, any builder I guess...

Hope this all works out ...

ahh I didn't know about the click and drag thing, I had been flying round trying to select all the pieces to link. I will experiment a bit with that, thanks for the tip :) For some reason though I could not actually link the pieces that I did manage to get selected like this as I got the permissions message. Could this happen if the house was set not to modify? I saw a post on forums today which said you cannot delink non-modifyable objects, but the house delinked on its own....which says to me it was a bug? when I took it out, the house was originally in two pieces, the main and side sections. Somehow during the process of me bringing it out and putting furniture inside it became delinked into 100+ individual prims.

Yeah I had all the parts locked down so I could no longer move them :)

Thanks for your response Siobhan I appreciate it :)

You can't link or unlink if any part of the set is :

Locked
No-Modify
Not yours ...

so if you've been locking parts, that might be the problem...

Hi,

Also very important to know that you can not link things when you have other people's prims selected as well. Chose "select mine only" from the tools menu to avoid this problem.

If you bought your house (as opposed to it being a Linden freebie), you should try IM'ing the creator to see if they can send you a free replacement. Most reputable creators will do this if you've irreperably messed up the first one! (I know I have done this for people).
