As part of the upcoming SLUniverse.com website, both public and private forums are being offered to compliment the forums found on this site, with the same robust feature set that the current forums have. I am curious how interested any leaders/members of the more active groups in SL would be in having private forums, accessible only to the members of their group. I am also interested in offering access to the forums while the site is being built, to allow for some testing - any interested group leader, please contact me and I will create a private forum for testing purposes. I can't believe nobody's jumped on this yet...sounds like a good idea to me. Most people don't want to have *another* message board to check every day but I think it'd be a HUGE help for people working on an event, or a group working on a specific project. Anything on a temporary basis...
If there's an option between having to register and not having to register to use it I think it'd be nice. The main hassle for me with joining a new forum is 'registering', it's a pain. Although some projects (like the robot competition) would need privacy.
Maybe you should also offer something that's designed for short term projects, nothing fancy just a simple forum like this one to brainstorm and post ideas on when people in a group aren't able to meet in game.

I'm not an officer and we usually do most things via group vote, but the SL Professional Women group could use something like this to communicate with one another out of game. I think I can speak for most of us when I say that we could at least use the resource for planning . Zana

Garoad, The forum does not require registration for browsing of public forums, only for posting. The registration process is just SL Name, email address, and a password, which enables posting, private messaging, subscribing to threads, etc... so the process is at least not particularly onerous. Thank you for your feedback, it was very helpful, and FYI the forums are in beta right now at www.sluniverse.com/forums/ - they are mainly there for testing right now, but are accessible and I can set up private group forums as needed.
