on my rental land. I rezz it then freeze it. I thought that made it stable but when I am working on it sometimes I forget to click the Edit Linked Parts button and POOF. *sigh, I think I have taken it or deleted it about 10 times. That means that all my work is for not. Im getting frustrated. Should I be clicking TerraBuild instead of Freeze? Home ownership isnt all its cracked up to be.

Lock it.
That's on the edit pane, and will keep you from inadvertently taking/deleting. We've all done it. If you can't lock it because you need to work on it you'll just get the knack of being careful after a bit. _____________________

I did it again tonight already. lol Im getting tired of rebuilding. _____________________

Im sorry but I cant find a LOCK feature anywhere. The only options the house gives me are terraform, rezz and freeze. I got the freeze part down but it doesnt seem to make a difference as I can do all the stuff before it as I can after it. Is this a SL feature like somewhere in the toolbar?

You're talking about scripted options that came with the house. These options (not to be insulting) are there for users too lazy to learn to build, or those generally ignorant of working with 3D spaces. You need to hit the "B" key to to open build and click the More >> button, then you need to go to object, there will be four check boxes... the first of which being lock. Check this on while selecting each object you want to make immune to accidental deletion / moving / picking up. I seriously recommend you visit Ivory Tower Library of Primitives to learn how to build and handle your own objects. |

I have tried building a house but the texture thing always gets me. It looks good outside but then the texures on the inside show outside so I have to build like a shell around it next time, I guess. This is my first time renting or having a house so Im new at this. I usully just make clothing but this looked like fun to. Thank you for all the help everyone,I appreciate it. Im not done asking questions yet. =)

Did you build your real life home? Did you build your real life car? Did you create all your own clothes? I would guess not and while you may be ignorant of the techniques and skills required to do so, not seeking them is not lazy as you suggest. I have several fine structures that were installed using the scripted build system. Positioning a large build using this system makes the whole process simple. One just has to remember to freeze the structure when its complete and then remove the building box. If someone puts a lot of time, effort and craft into building something that meets my needs then I have no problem rewarding (often pitifully in real money terms) them by purchasing a copy. Talus |

Left-click outside the house and drag the selection box over the entire building. If there are no tabs click "more" to display the tabs. Click the "Object" tab. Click "lock". _____________________

Talus Be insulted if you want, most home owners understand basic repair work and most car owners know how to change their own wiper fluid. Now if you're rich and you can afford to live without any old fashioned know how, well... you're the exception. Yes to your questions, I am a wood-turner and a carpenter, I can repair my own car. This is not my thread and this is off topic, but I will say that as a content creator it is maddening to answer 'questions' (insults, cries for help, obvious things like how I open box?) it maddens me with how willfully ignorant people will be. I offered the OP a place to go learn at their own pace, with a self guided course... what more could he want aside from one of us personally taking over his account and locking it for him before handing it back? Not saying he ever asked for this, and I think by now he has handled locking his objects from the good directions by argent. |

Dear Katnipsox Magic, you reminded me of my early days in SL..I did that too!
The lock means that it will ask you before take or delete your house so you have a moment when in the heat of building to reconsider. You can lock parts of your house or all of it..it really pays to learn how to do this. Maybe practice on a pair of linked practice prims. Rez some prims and link them and then practice editing them separately and locking and unlocking them. Its easier on you then the deleting and taking of your whole house. Follow Argent Stonecutter instructions and you can lock your whole house and everything that is in it..then if you want to work on something, select it and then choose edit linked prims and select only the prim you want to work on..you can unlock that and the rest will be safe. I laugh when I remember all the times I did that too.. Enjoy your building and good luck. _____________________
