Dumb noobie question of the day:

How do I change permissions on an object I created? I don't seem to have the option....the checkboxes are all greyed out. Is there something I have to do first?

Is it locked?
You'll have to unlock it before you can change anything.

most odd then...

if you made it, and you've not given it away, sold it or deeded it, then you can change permissions as you like.

it may be a bug ... check again once SL coes back up

Other random ideas that stand a chance of working:

- did you Link it to anyone else's object? If so, then you inherit the intersection of the permissions between the two, ie if you didnt have certain permissions on that object, you dont have them on the new one.

- you're not in Select Individual mode by chance are you?

Also, where is the object when you are setting the perms? The most reliable way is to rez the object, rightclick, do "Edit", then change them that way.

Setting them in inventory is dubious, and setting them when theyre inside something else is (I think) not possible

1. No...and I get the same thing with just a cube I rezzed on the ground that isn't linked to anything at all

2. Nope

3. The object is sitting in front of me in world - well it was before SL went down anyway :) I will play with it some more when it comes back up

Thanks for your response...

It has been awhile since I had an issue on changing permissions on an object. Due to SL being down, I can't check first before posting... however... when I first began building.. I created a huge pink snail... I had not try setting permissions right off... because.. she was my pride and joy.. my visitor in Cowell from the deep.
I had someone interested in her... that I wanted to give a copy of her as a gift. Now... I don't recall exactly...if I was greyed out on permissions.. however..I know..I was unable to set to beable to give transfer.
After many attempts..and asking questions... I found my problem.... some of the textures I had purchased, I used on her... finding out now.. that when you buy textures from designers..first.. check permissons given on each texture. If.. they do not give full permissions, copy... modify.. resale.. then.. you can not use what the texture does not allow..with the object you designed.
Now.. I only buy textures or, use gifted ones...that have full permissions..since I am in the business of making home furnishings..
Hope.. maybe this will help..if not for this issue..any future ones ;)

I had a similar problem once when after dragging and dropping to apply textures I'd accidently added one to the contents of a prim. I forget the exact details but it effected the permissions I could set.

So it might be worth checking all the prims contents too if the other suggestions don't work out.... Alternatively I may be the only person this stupid, so you could ignore me ;)

if you give the object to someone and they give it back, you inherit the next owner permission. being the creator doesn't matter at that point, you're just the next owner.

i've lost modify permission dropping objects on people for brief examination. more than once! what a goober. ha ha ha
